View Full Version : Curious about pvp rewards

So I just spent about 3 hours in AB last night playing in PuGs casually and I still got over 5k honor. At the current rate I'll have my HWL spellblade by Sunday night. Given how much more some people play than me, I can only assume that there will be hundreds of HWL geared players by the New Year.
So what's the deal? Did blizzard screw up and they will soon change all these costs, or do they really want everyone to WTFPWN the game? I get this sneaking suspicion that they are gearing us all out heavily in anticipation of how difficult the xpack will be. Thoughts?

i think that gearing even the casual players out is a big part of it all. If i had to go into outland with my blues right now, mobs wouldnt even attack me....they would laugh and go about their business :P
On the fact that everybody can get the HWL weapons quite easily:
Sure it takes maybe 4 days of PVP to get it, but it is only one weapon, im aming for the entire epic PVP set and that will make me competitive, but it will take a lot more time than just getting a HWL weapon.
So people who like PVP will get the rewards before TBC others will keep on raiding for their T2/T3 so i dont think it is that ig of a problem.
I will love my epic PVP mage :)
Cheers

Blizzard is changing the system so TBC difficulty normalize.

Yeah I thought about that too... I got 745 honor in two AB games... so not gonna be difficult to get a couple of pieces. The thing is it's going to take a lot longer to get the entire set.
It's not going to put the players in blues on the same level as hardcore pvpers any time soon... but it is nice for raiders like myself who have a handful a pieces they'd like to have upgraded before the expansion. I'm going for the offhand and the gloves. I will get the spellblade if I have time but I since I'm a demo specced lock I'm just as happy getting my Kris of Unspoken Names to complete my 3 piece AQ bonus which I'm very close to.

i honestly think it has to do w/ TBC, the gear is gonna be somewhat outdated in like 2 months anyways, and this will allow people who are not uber geared to get some gear before they get rocked in TBC

oO How are you guys getting so much honour in just a few games. I get with ALOT of trouble about 1k honour an hour. (And yes I win most AB's)

What are/were you guys highest rank and the rank you guys had when the patch when live? Cause I read somewhere honor calculations are wrong cause they still include rank. In that case my highest rank was rank 8 and the rank I had when the patch went live was rank 6.

i believe the honor calculations were wrong because the honor you got for kills was still being effected by the rank of the person you killed on occasion.
(i am guessing on this as i have not read a ton about this, but did see "HK: Grand Marshall ... 14 honor" a few times in AB yesterday.)
and i thought it had been fixed, but i may be wrong?
oh, and rank 9 on one toon, rank 7 on my current main.

My tier 1 / 2 hunter gets ~10 honor per kill in AB.
My blue'd warrior gets like ~9 honor per kill in AB.
My brothers blud'd out fire mage (50 pts in fire tree.. lol) gets 15 - 20 honor per kill.
Our best bet is because of the amount of damage done.
My warrior and hunter HELP kill, rarely solo kill anything. My brother one shots guys all the time.
My hunter got 31 points for kill a tier 2 AFK rogue solo though. :)

Hmm, I was going to ask the same question as the OP.
I've started playing my mage again with the 2.0 patch. He's decked out in descent blues and is repmaxed with AV for mount etc, but I was never much into pure honor farming - as a semicasual I just couldn't compete.
But now, postpatch...sweet lord...farming honor in AV as a mage is fast'n'easy and the pvp gear is madly underpriced. I'm gonna spend all my gaming time in AV and the other bg:s farming honor and getting geared out until TBC hits us.
I really don't care about Blizzards reasons for this - I just see an opportunity for my HP and +dam to skyrocket before the expansion 8-)

A question:
I see epic pvp mounts cost now 30 tokens from each bg. now, being a gnome and having already the 150 skill does that mean I can buy an epic tiger that easy?

is there rewards that just require tokens other than the PVP mounts??
I have over 100 AV tokens but currently sitting on 13k honor as I recently attained the GM mageblade... the ones i have over 100 r sitting in my mail box and will only last 24 hours from when i earned em... so do i have to pretty much just stop AV'ing if i dont wanna be losing tokens?? can i still hand them in for rep as im not quite exalted yet??
Cos I hear some people r still doing AV mainly for tokens not honor and was wondering why? thanks
edit: the stormspike supply officer has a couple of items that only require tokens... but they suck lol

first of all a question: how do u think (or know) in what bg is it the quickest to get honor? i thought in AV, but i dont see me getting a lot there, so i went to AB. it was a weekend, so i made some honor there...tho, not that quick as i expected...
cosideration: i also have already loads of tokens, which are actually pretty useless, since u dont need that many tokens for items..the wuestion is: what can i do with all the rest of the tokens? it is not possible to exchange them for honor somewhere, is it?

Lots of questions in this thread, I don't see many answers.
I also have a question. I just started pvp this week with the new patch, because I am a casual player. Before the new system there was no way I could put in enough time to rank up. Now the rewards seem possible.
Does anyone have a link to what can be purchased with marks from EACH bg?
For example, I did AB and AB only over the weekend. Is there a link that will tell me what is available with ab marks? I understand that different marks are needed for different set pieces, I'm looking for a couple of pieces in particular and don't want to waste my time farming the wrong marks.
I might be an idiot, I searched with google and on the main site, saw all the rewards the stats etc.. but couldn't find any list of what comes from which BG.
Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

here is what ive found in my research so far:
the pvp head peice, the neck peice i want (av one), pvp gloves, a ring i want (av epic one) and the pvp weapons all require AV marks of honor. overall i need 150 av marks of honor
now, the pvp shoulders, the cloak i want (ab one), the pvp chest piece, the belt i want (ab one) and the pvp boots all require AB marks of honor. overall i need 110 AB marks of honor.
any sort of bracers you want, the pvp leggs, and the nice wsg ring all require...you guessed it, WSG marks of honor. sadly i need 70 wsg marks of honor for everything i want there.
if you cant guess, the charactor im doing all of this for is a brand new 60 :P well, not quite 60 yet, but soon, and im gonna do nothing but pvp till my eyes fall out and get some really nice gear so she can hopefully kill things when TBC comes out, seeing how im grinding to 60 in pretty much all AH greens. but i think that pretty much sums up which marks are used for what stuff. like, any shoulders you want are always gonna cost AB marks, any bracrers will require WSG marks, ect. good luck!

yea, ive been trying to find a link w/ the exact costs too, just not been able too :( im resisting getting on the game right now bc im *cough* studying for finals
edit: i was able to find something somewhere on this board that had a link to something that had a bunch of pics (man thats confusing) so i was able to get the exact marks of honor costs for everything, though ive heard the prices are different than what he has, but i dont think the marks overall is gonna be the problem, its gonna be getting the 150k honor i need o.0

1. it keeps interest in the game. they opened the beta too soon and people have totally lost interest in the game, especially with all the delays. raiding is down, game play is down, etc etc. The pvp changes have had a resurgence in play time.
2. the percentage of pvp players is relatively small, most pve and most of the pve players have pretty good gear (especially the 60s). The new pvp system still works out great for these people because they only want 1 or two pieces. For instance, I just want the HWL head and spellblade and the rest I am ok with. Should take me about a month to get them, so I am happy with that.
3. The VAST majority of people playing have never been in a 20-40 man raid and have not ever had access to any of that gear. This provides them a way to easily obtain that gear.
4. They want to equalize out the content across the board as much as possible, so you dont have t3 people burning thru content and the rest of the world left in the dust. I think they are just trying to provide a more equal starting point so that it can still be a challenge for the top tier players.
I say GG blizz.

post this in the wrong board? lol, im confused
and you contradict yourself between number 2 and number 3. you say most people are pve'ers and not pvp'ers, but most people havent been on a raid, lol

That's not a contradiction. Most players don't participate in 20-40 man raids -or- PvP. A good portion of people who play any MMORPG don't even get to the level cap before quitting.

go the the census site and take a look among the census from all realms. the number of 60s vastly outnumbers...everything else. if you get to 60 you pretty much pvp or do instances, and w/ pugs getting to rag in mc...youl end up raiding too

brandon,
I suspect that there's a large element of appealing to the lowest common denominator in these changes, as there's an excellent business case for it. A significant proportion of the existing userbase didn't have any PvP kung-fu to speak of, and if it offers near-instant gratitification with very little barrier to entry, it's just another way that people will get recruited via word of mouth et cetera.
It's one of the major changes to the flavour and balance of the game which is bound to upset grumpy old sods like me- much like the erosion of the distinctive flavour of the two factions, now that everyone has shammies and pallies.
Well darn it, if that's what they want.. It's still a fun game for all that, I will just put my brain in neutral, make a jewelcrafting Dranei shammy and enjoy easy mode :)

Its called leveling the playing field, anyone who has pvp'd since the onset of the system knows that a team decked out in epics will have a slight edge over a team of similiar skill decked out in blues and maybe a few epics.
By allowing casual players relatively easy access to good pvp gear it will even the playing field and hopefully make the bg system more about skill and teamwork rather than which side has the best gear.
Overall I think its a good idea, when it comes to pvp in any game the goal of the designers is to make it as fair as possible for all players or they just get frustrated and leave the game to find something else. Alot of people didnt have the time to raid with large guilds and got tired of getting owned in blue/green pugs. I have already seen more shouts in IF for custom bg groups than I have ever seen since the bg system was incepted, it is definitely promoting teamwork among the casual puggers which is a good thing.

Nah, it's called pandering to the lowest common denominator.
When I made my pvp toon, I made a concious effort to avoid any unfair advantages. I made it on another server, on the opposite faction. I refused all guild invitations. I didn't depend on raid epics. Levelling a priest on a PvP server was insane fun, and I started her early in BGs, due to the baptism of fire that the PvP server environment gave me.
Actually, I had earned most of my blue PvP set and BG rep purples before I hit 60 (i.e. before I could use a lot of them), with just some evening and weekend play. It's "more about skill and teamwork rather than which side has the best gear"- you just have to win a lot. What the changes have done is all but remove the need for skill and teamwork, making it more about who has the most time to grind. Sure, I ended up being in demand for a pretty nasty premade, but at that point, I had pvp gear and rank which indicated that I wasn't one of your tyical PvE server ROFLstompers who can't PvP for toffee and is too scared to go near the BGs without all of their purple friends in tow. As it goes, my raiding characters hardly ever PvP.
I don't mind overmuch, as it's obvious blizzard did it for sound business reasons, they aren't a philanthropic organisation, they're a company. There's a lot more money to be made from aiming at the middle of the ability curve. If it was me making millions from the game, I'd probably do the same.
Of course, I'll take advantage of all the new "easy mode" changes. I will probably make a the obligatory jewelcrafting Dranei shammy and grind it some PvPwear with friends and guildies, just for the sheer fun of it. There's no point being a purist, it's just a game.

Thanks for the welcome, nice to see you still around here, also.
Hmm, I think we had this puzzler before.. Aren't you playing on the US servers? If not though, feel free to bring it on. I can work out which battlegroup I'm in, if you want to smack me down for being so darned cheeky.. I love a challenge, and I am not (very) evil.
..and hey, a decent opponent is a very good teacher, it's what makes the game fun.

You share honor with everyone else within a radius in the same raid group. So you have kill someone but has 20 other people around you, you share the honor with those 20 people.

I think a lot of people got an unrealistic expectation of how fast they are going to acquire honor this past weekend for a couple of reasons:
1. I think most 60s took the first couple of days post PTR playing around with their spec, maybe kicking the tires with some solo PvE and some 5-mans or raids.
2. They realize just how generous the new PvP system is and they cannot resist that so they start PvPing late in the week and over this past weekend.
3. What many were doing was ABing on double honor weekend.
OK, no double honor weekend is over with a break in the cycle so that there won't be another until weekend after next. Also, Blizz nerfed honor by 30%. As a result, a lot of the people who saw honor piling up fast were making unrealistic predictions on how long it would take them to get several HWL pieces. I was probably one of them. I picked up 14.6K honor over the weekend in just a few hours a day and thought hey, I'll have my new bow by Tuesday. Bzzzt.
It is still very, very doable, but it wont be as fast as many ppl though it was going to be.
