You have confused me.

You say you want to buy a "CPU just the tower nothing else". What do you mean by this?

The CPU is the Central Processing Unit. It's a chip that's plopped into the motherboard that handles the main computer processing. AMD (Athlon) and Intel (Pentium, CoreDuo, Core2Duo) are the two main CPU manufacturers. If you're just looking for the CPU, we need to know what motherboard you have before we can suggest a compatible CPU. An example of a CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103750

The tower is another name for the whole PC. This includes the CPU, motherboard, RAM, video card, and all other internal components (in other words, it excludes external peripherals such as the monitor, keyboard, and mouse). An example of a 'tower': http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=desktops&a1=Usage&v1=Multimedia+and+gaming&series_name=d4650y_series

Now, what exactly are you looking for?

What is a buck? We're a multinational site, the term buck is used in many different soceties in reference to many different currencies. I take it you mean American Dollars, but this would only be a guess, and a potentially wrong one at that.

OK starting to put together a set-up for you... anything that you plan on using from your old tower:
Optical/Cd-Drive
Hard Drive... etc...

You might want to use http://www.pricewatch.com

They compare almost any store that is online that sells parts and tries to get you the cheapest deal. They also rate each retailer to try and give you some sense of reliablity. I would start there.
