Level up to 19 before you enter the BG again. You'll save yourself _and_ your team some frustration!
And as for the melee problems... Clip or Trap.
You're obviously playing in WSG... Hunters make good defenders in this BG. Stick around your flag room and take it from there. Most importantly, follow orders in the BG channel!

I realize it doesn't like that all the time, but BG's have a bracket from 10 to 19, 20 to 29, etc... Not "19", "29",... They are supposed to be fun, and actually joining earlier on is a good test for your character.

In the 10-19 bracket? You've got to be kidding?

I believe it's called "Wing Clip". It's a Hunter attack that slows the opponent. Traps are devices the hunter can place in the path of his foes to slow them down. This helps reduce their ability to close to melee range.
I'm with Snowieken as well, try the BGs at any level.
You'll face twinks, you're likely to lose and so on, but it's fun and it gives you a bit of experience in the field. Maybe not a lot, but hey - there are no rules that say we all have to be the top level for that bracket to participate. Otherwise, what happens when you go from 29 to 30? Do you just stay out of BG for the next 9 levels?
Teamwork in BG. There's the key. And communication. We've gone into them with levels in the lower brackets and while we've not walked away with a win, we went in as a team, fought as a team and had fun. Sure, we lost. But it was fun!

Clip means using you wing clip skill, this slows the target allowing you to get distance and time before they close again.
Trap means using your trap skill and basically put down a land mine (chill, fire or freeze) so that your opponent runs into is as he is trying to close with you. This is where defending is good; placing the trap half way down a hall leading to your flag. They set it off and you pound on them while they come at you. I do not remember what level you get traps but they work great for defense and bottleneck areas.
Hope that helps!

I also hate it when people say "OMG NEWB JOIN AT 19 JUST HEAL U WORTHLESS". Get real. It's a bracket for a reason. And as a hunter, it makes it even more easy since you're ranged DPS that can't be resisted (your shots can only miss). Don't let other's discourage you. I've been in BG's many times with my main low level priests (14-17) and I've had people PMing me (opposite faction players made a character on my realm) claiming I'm a jackass twink (which I am far from) who plays too much and needs to go on their main. Taking these tips, learning your class, and having fun will surely get you a long way.

In the 10-19 bracket? You've got to be kidding?I am most certainly not. I hate the fact that you have a 90% chance of people screaming at you and calling you names for the fact that you aren't level 19 yet when you join a BG in the 10-19 bracket. Let me repeat that one more time: 10-19 bracket. It's a game, it's supposed to be fun - it's not some kind of international championship.

you're free to join a bg at 10.. but you will be a handicap to your team..
since you have around 200 hp, and can be 2-3 shotted by a level 19 no problem.. not to mention all the spell resists and melee misses/dodges...
so not only will you die alot, you wont be doing much damage.

Funny. In the few (And I stress few) BG's I've been the Alliance players will mostly stop playing if there are more than two or three bottom of bracket players in the team.
/battleground is then filled with "We're losing because the level 23 is in the team!" and "I'm not going to do anything. I'll just lol as you lose. Noobs!"
Never occurred to the smart ones there that playing as a team might actually help ensure victory.
The thing is, you can contribute in different ways. Yes, a level 10 might be on the outside edge of usefulness generally speaking. But at level 14? Play, enjoy the game and have fun.

I'm not about to start screaming at people for joining at the lower levels in this bracket... I realise it's a game. I was just offering advice i'd follow at that lvl range.
The only real frustrations I have in the battlegrounds are the people who are most obviously afk (or fishing!) and contributing nothing to the team.
The real problem with the 10-19 bracket is the difference between a L10 player and a L19(18) player. They still don't have any/many of the skills and talents that their class obtains in the next 9 level ups.
It's still apparent in the 20-29 bracket, but to a lesser degree. That's why I prefer the 40-49 bracket.
