ok, so i got home for xmas and went to play wow in the precious little time i have to actually do so. but it flat will not load. i kept getting an error along the lines of: "you are not running an up-to-date version of World Of Warcraft" or something similar. after getting this 3-4 times i tried the blizz repair program. this did nothing. literally. it did not DO anything. looked like it was tryin to, but when all was said and done nothing was changed and i still could not play wow.
so, i decided to reinstall. i deleted the whole thing (minus my addons, which i moved to another folder on the computer) and reinstalled. all went well till i went to get 2.0.1. it DL'd fine but on the "install" screen, for lack of a better term, it gave me the following error: "The file "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe" could not be renamed to "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe.Trash". (Conflict::ResolveConflicts/1)"
i have no idea what any of this means. im not terribly computer savvy and would appreciate any and all help. if i need to provide any more info on the problem let me know and i will atempt to do so.
thanks!

did you delete it or actually uninstall? plus you'll have to get new mods they won't be compatible either.

i just deleted the folders. for some reason wow didnt show up on the add/remove programs list and i'm stupid and forgot the uninstall option. lol.
also, it WAS working under 2.0.1 and all my addons DID work. just for some reason when i switched houses my **** goes all haywire.
It sounds as if your WoW.exe and WoW.exe.Trash have become read-only or recursively the directory or hard disk has become read-only. Check that first. Also have you tried to reboot and see if that fixes it? Only thing I can think of causing that is a permissions issue. Another cause that I would hate to consider is that you have a trojan or virus preventing you from altering WoW. I am about to make a thread on WoW security after this weeks end events in which my account was stolen and I got locked out.

well, uh, the whole WoW.exe and WoW.exe.Trash have become read-only thing makes sense, but all the rest of you post needs to be translated for me. :) i have no idea what you said.
although the error mesage did say the wow.exe could not be changed to wow.exe.trash or some such **** like that.

To be honest with you, if you make a habit of not using common utilities like add/remove programs or if you don't shut down the machine properly etc then you may have trashed your windows installation completely.
If you are using Windows Xp then you could try a system restore (google it) to get back to before you deleted the folder. Alternatively you could try booting into safe mode (google it) and uninstalling the new wow and reinstalling from scratch.
Worst case scenario is that you have a dodgy hard drive you can download a diagnostic program from your computer or hard drive manufacturers website to check for this.

i had already run a system restore. wow was not on the list when i went to uninstall it, and i already said i was drunk or something and forgot the uninstall utility.
anyhow. finally got it fixed, thought i'd let everyone know what it was.
there is a trojan that causes the "invalid version" error when loading the game. according to blizz, this is the only thing it does. they also gave 2 anti-virus programs that will get rid of it. both are good. i am personally planning on buying AVG antivirus as i have used it to good extent in the past.
