Well... my computer freezes randomly when I play WoW (I can play other "intensive" games such as BF2 or CSS without any problem.

This is what I've tried so far:

1. Formating my hard drives and reinstalling windows
2. Updating all drivers (chipset, gfx card, etc...)

Thanks in advance

You actually formatted and it didn't work? Ouch, poor you.

Anyway, there were a few reports of WoW freezing on the official forums, and my girlfriend's computer seems to be affected as well. I have no clue what the solution is, and I don't even know if it's fixed already (haven't been to her place for a few days) I am just trying to tell you that you don't seem to be the only one.

Does the sound loop when it freezes, or does it just stop altogether?

FYI: I am experiencing the same problems ever since the latest patch. My computer is a Mac, but it doesn't seem to discriminate among computer types, PC's as well as Macs get this problem.

It seems to be related to the graphics card, and turning down all graphics options to their lowest settings seems to help, the game didn't freeze on my computer for two days now (while I got freezes three times an evening before). I'll keep the settings to their lowest until someone figures out which settings in particular are responsible for the freezes. Or until Blizzard puts out a new patch. It won't be as pretty, but at least you can (hopefully) play without worries.

I'm having a sort of similar problem. I just got WoW and played for hours with no problem. Then after a late night session the computer just completely locked.

I'm now getting the dreaded "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA" BSOD.

stop codes are 0x00000050 (which some websites say is a fault of trojans but there aren't any in my Windows folder that I can find) and 0x0000008E.

Athlon 2500 and Radeon 9800 Pro with 768MB RAM for extra info.

Try borrowing a graphics card off someone. It sounds like three problems, but they're all memory related. 1. The Hard Disk is corrupt. This is possible in places, reformatting usually fixes this, but some problems are physical. 2. The System Ram is cheap/bad/faulty. Often happens when people mix two ram sticks that aren't similar, or one is from a lower quality production line; sometimes a Ram stick can simply have been produced bad. 3. The graphics card's own dedicated memory is faulty. Rare but does happen, and has caused a great many head aches due to it's obscurity. Substitution rules these problems out.

I'm going for a new install on a spare drive, as I can't see it being any of the other hardware, which I've had for a couple years without incident.

The PC is even hard locking just after getting to desktop. Sometimes it does it just after a Firefox error. Let's see if a completely vanilla XP install comes up with the same problems, will report when done.

(aaargh....just remembered I'll have to wait for the warcaft install and updates on top of the time for XP reinstall and drivers...thank you Blizzard for giving me something to do over the holidays)

I would recommend switching out the ram sticks, trying them in different positions or one only at a time. 768MB of Ram sounds like a bit of a kit bash, and possible mismatch may be present. The problems do sound like it's the Ram if it's effecting all parts of operation from gaming to simple web surfing.

Thanks, I am trying that now. I hung a drive on the side and did a fresh install but everything was still giving crazy errors (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT anyone? How about a nice CDFS_FILE_SYSTEM_ERROR as well?)

I've taken the 256MB stick out and we'll see how it goes. Fingers crossed.
