hi, i'm having trouble and i'm very confused. i'm in ironforge right now. i talked to the leatherworking guy, balthier so he can train me...but he tells me to talk to gretta cuz i'm not skilled enough, so i talk to her. and according to her, i cant learn any recipes unless i have 15 points in leatherworking. so how am i suppose to get points in my leatherworking if she wont train me?

oh and i skinned about 50 bears and wolves.
i dont know how to leatherwork either.

You should be able to go to Darnassus and start training there. The trainer is on the second floor above the tailor.

When you learn the LW skill initially you get a few very basic patterns. Make those repeated until your skill is high enough to learn more patterns, learn new ones...rinse and repeat. You can do this at any trainer of appropriate level, no need to go to darn. You are best off starting with making light leather from ruined leather scraps.

And to use Leatherworking, go to your Skill book ("P" is the default hotkey) and check the General tab. There should be an icon for Leatherworking. Put it in one of your action bars, and just press it to go to your Leatherworking panel. From there you can start making stuff, as theshard already suggested, stuff that you learned when you first learned LW.

Hey guys,

quick question. Last night i hit 225/225 and went to Darn to upgrade to Artisan. Telion told me that he could not teach me anything and to go to Aire Peak. I made my way to the Peak and spoke to the dwarfe and got the Artisian. Thing is, he did not have any new patterns for me, all my current ones are now green - so im not getting a skill point per creation - but more like every three. Do I now have to go find/buy from drops or AH for new patterns to get the orange ones or is there something that I am missing?

Thanks.

Did you check with Telion about what patterns you could learn first? There are definitely trainer patterns that should be available there that are orange or yellow. I think the nightscape tunic and headband are still yellow at 225. However, at that level, you should also be looking into vendor patterns, as those occasionally require less unusual ingredients.

There's also the wild leather patterns which are questable, but I wouldn't recommend grinding those for skill-ups since they take wildvine.

Thanks for the reply.

I should have mentioned before I went to Aire Peak I grabbed all available patterns from Telion, i used Nightscape headband to level it up - When I got to Aire Peak it was still yellow - until I got to 230.

Vendor Patterns. I may have to go seek some of these out :) are they around in particular towns, and do they change all the time? I'd assume the goblin vendor robots may have them from time to time? I have a couple of dropped patterns waiting to be learnt (but need 265 and 285 to learn them)

Looks like my new mission is to go find vendors who sell the patterns now :)

Cheers.

Something else you can try.......
Look on the AH to see what patterns are available. Don't buy them (unless they are really cheap or if you don't feel like going to the vendor). If you see any that are in the range you want...make note of them, then look them up on one of the WoW "resource" type sites (sorry...can't name them here :) and find out which vendor they are available on. That should cut down on some of your travel time.

...or you could just go to one of those sites to start with and browse through the LW recipes.

Thanks for the replies.

Interestingly enough, a quick search on leather working patterns, the last pattern I learnt (Thick Leather Ammo Pouch (requires 225)) is the last item until Wild Leather boots that requires 245.

Looks like I'll have to grind extra hard for about triple the amount of leather to get myself up the next 15 points.

Does this sound right?

I assume these listed are the trainer learnable ones as well as the drops/AH ones?

Also, don't forget to check Thottbot. They list all recipies for variousd skills and where you get them (trainor, vender, drop). I find it very useful. Also, you can use it to see what items are coming up, so you cna get ready for them if you want.
