Just curious.....

I've heard some vague answer before but I just want a straight answer (hopefully there is one)

Which pro. is the one that will make you gold the fastest. Not the most the quickest.

n00b question i know but hopefully someone can help

My vote would go for Herbalism/Alchemy or possibly skinning. But that would be an observation, more than a fact. The best way to make money though is the AH. Follow kcma's tips and you'll be rich spending 20 minutes a day in the AH.

Warlock forums - how to make gold so you can grind like kcma (http://forums.worldofwar.net/showthread.php?t=371401&goto=newpost). It takes a bit of setup, you need to understand what sells on your server at any given time as it's a fairly dynamic market place - but some things people will always want. Twink gear, certain potions, materials, etc. I'm still learning, but it's a great feeling investing 5gp before you go to bed and waking up to 40gp or more in your mailbox.

On a side note, herbalism is a sure fire way to make quick gold at 60. Go farm some dreamfoil for about 20 minutes, net about 20 dreamfoil, and scream in a major city 20x[Dreamfoil] 9g!!! I bet theyll sell rather quick....

Or make Fire protection pots and put them up at about 5pm server time....all those players going on raids and not farming there own mats will buy anything.

with bc coming out soon, im finding it harder to sell some twink items, plus with the new honor system in play a lot of lvl 19 twink items dropped in price by about half as everyone is beginning to use these new items. also a lot of raid items dont sell as well still....herbalisim and skinning seem to make the most money on MOST servers. my server does substantually better with mining as opposed to herbalisim. just watch the market for a week see what goes well and what has decent prices for ease of gathering. starting areas is a big factor as well for your items....mining is not good for night elves as there are few mining nodes in their starting area. when you get to auberdine you have more sprout up. humans and all the other alliance do extremely well with mining as there are lots of mountain ranges in the area

if you dont care about using the professions the best 3 profession combos (i believe at least) are:

herb/alc
herb/mining(or skinning, skinning makes less money per stack because its so easy and common but takes far less time)
herb./enchanting

herbalism overall (if you actually pick herbs that is :P) is by far the most money making profession for people who are committed to it. The reason is simple..........when someone uses your product, its gone forever. if they wanna use it again they have to buy it again. same can be said for mining too but the difference is that mining feeds into engineering (not really anything you can sell from engineering on a consistant basis) and blacksmithing. in both of those once the person has the product (gun, sword, chestpiece) they never need to buy it again for that char (with the exception of engineering bullets i guess....) itll change a touch in the expansion though with jewelcrafting (people will need jewels again when they replace equipment).

herbalism feeds directly into alchemy which is used by all raiding guilds, some of which would rather spend the time to farm a quick few gold to buy the herbs rather then farm the herbs themselves. a select few potions are used by PvPers as well (mostly swiftness and free action/living action in my experience).

enchanting is good because every piece of equipment you get feeds into mats every char in the game needs for enchants. enchanting stuff lists on the AH for free as well (no deposit cost). plus the added bonus of being able to get something other then the paltry gold amount when you are done using a particular item because you upgraded it.

overall i think herb/alc is the best. at the present time dreamfoil is used for so much stuff that its almost impossible not to make money from gathering it (gromsblood icecap mountain silversage and ghost mushrooms are good as well). alchemy can fill in the holes on some of the easier to find herbs if you can make a good potion with it (swiftness is a good example).

I cannot say how well this combo will work in the expansion though. Im thinking mining/enchanting might make a good combo bcause of some of the changes put into the game. mining feeds into jewelcrafting (there are goig to be about 5 trillion jewelcrafters when BC comes out :P) and blacksmithing (which got a very major upgrade in the expansion with BoP specialist only weapons such as http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28441). enchanting was changed so that a level 5 alt cant disenchant as well as an actual leveled enchanter so enchants and materials should be more expensive

I have this sneaking suspicion that Jewelcrafting will be similar to Enchanting, in that they will only be needed when people upgrade their equipment / weapons - except that they can be listed on the AH.

I also think that the crafted items like amulets and trinkets won't be as good as drops.

Necessary, yes. Profitable, no.

Just a quick observation, but the FASTEST way to make money is via playing the AH. Buy Low, Sell High, never leave town. Of course you need some initial capital, but for example, look for twink items that could be sold for more. I've always found that weapons have higher margins than armor for some reason :/

as for professions, gems sell like mad on my servers now a days. Probably people gearing up for Jewelcrafting in TBC.
