Can't believe that I'm spending good playing time telling you this. Enough preamble.

It appears that Telia/Blizz have blocked many IP addressess that were connected today. At least that theory, first suggested on the WoW tech forums, matches the fix i've just tested on my machine.

i.e. Renew your IP address.

Simply reboot your router or disconnect and reconnect to the internet in case of modem and if you're on a dynamic IP, you'll be assigned a new IP address. If you're on a static IP, it appears you are, until the problem is fixed, fuxxored. If you ever pondered what it would be like to have a life and go out on a Friday night, rather than kill a giant eyeball, now would be the time to go check it out.

I'm off to play, but please post if it works or not for you before playing yourself, if only to help out others in the same boat.

IP blacklists FTL

It isn't that, and even if they did, they would block on the game servers, probably not on the border routers, which is where the traffic dies. Most router OSSen don't take kindly to too many ACLs.

What's more, my IP, and several others of people I know haven't been in use at all today (checked the traffic stats on my router for some funny reason, and there wasn't anywhere near enough transfer for a WoW session, and it has been a "nailed-up" connection all day).

It's a nice theory, but I fear it's just that, a wild forum rumour, and misinformation, however honestly meant :)

If your IP was blocked i'm thinking it pretty much looks like a "nailed up" connection. The traffic needed would be very very small I would think.
