Try using a different CD drive. It's worked for other people in the past.

This error has been said to have multiple sources and solutions. Some say it's the disks themselves, others say it's the age of the device that's attempting to read them. Try downloading the client from here: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/downloads/wowclient-download.html

Well yes. Look at the file size. Unless you've bought a really good connection, it'll take hours to download several thousand megabytes. Be thankful you're not on dialup, you'd be there for a week.

at my dads ( dial up) it took like 3-4 days i dont remeber...at my moms it took like less then 1 hour ( road runner)
also....say if i got the game when WoW first came out, would it take less time to install cuz of the lack of patches? cuz my friend got it in sep.2005 ( we have same exact computer, same internet) and it took him like 20 mins to dl, and i got mine in likemarch of 2006 and it took like 40-50 mins...did mine take longer cuz mroe patches?

You have to download the patch seperately. Remember, not all connections are constant. People pay the same, but they don't get the same service. The performance of a connection is grossly out of line with any form of pricing, fluctuating from day to day, hour to hour. If some local had accidentally dug up a telephone cable, and you'd be suprised how often that happens, most national networks are built with redundency, but it impacts on the speed surrounding the break.
Whatever caused it to slow down, it wasn't patches. Could of been that you're just in a slightly different location. Distances of less than a quater of a mile impact on signal strength, and line speeds. If I lived four miles more from my nearest telephone exchange, broadband would be an impossibility, or just pointless due to it acting with as much latency and speed as a dialup modem.
Even when you have the same internet package, absolutely no garentee you'll get the same performance as someone else. Could be better, could be worse. Read up on it, the possible variables alone are staggering. For all we know, routine maintainence or local line upgrades could have been responsible.
