"Does Illidan have Energy or Rage"?
In W3 he gained power from agility, but he seems to get his power from an inner rage. He burns mana so he COULD be a shadow priest in diguise. OR he could be a warlock post-skull-eating who happened to learn how to dual wield!
We've had an Elemental, A leader of a Dragonflight, an Old God, and a Lich Mage. With the Black Temple opening TBA, what class do you think our most difficult current foe will be?
You make the call!
Being a Boss/God/something...I guess he can be a multi-class. Have energy and mana and rage....
So yeah..sounds like a druid...

Mana in 'normal'-form, energy in even-more-demonic-form.

Illidan is half demon I think? So a rogue with extra nifty stuff imo :D Oh and he had Highborn magic, and in WC3 he gets the Eye of Sargeras.

Standing nearly 7 1/2 feet tall, the creature's night elf heritage is evident in his violet skin, long ears, and flowing blue hair. He wears tattered cloth pants, and jagged tattoos cover his bare chest and arms. He wears a ragged bandage around his head that covers his eyes. He carries two massive warglaives - each etched with demonic runes of power.
Combat
Illidan relies on spellcasting to hammer his opponents. His strong combat abilities are a secondary strategy to throw off his enemies as he buys time to cast bigger and better spells of destruction. If it's one-to-one, he goes hand-to-hand. Against larger groups, he tries to take them apart tactically rather than through sheer brawn.
Spells: As a 20th-level sorcerer.
Arcane Spells Known (6/10/9/9/9/9/8/8/8/8; save DC 23 + spell level): 0 - acid splash, detect magic, detect poison, ghost sound, light, mage hand, mending, read magic, touch of fatigue; 1st - disguise self, feather fall, moonglaive, shadowmeld, true strike; 2nd - arcane lock, cripple, detect thoughts, invisibility, mana burn; 3rd - fly, nondetection, protection from elements, tongues; 4th - dimension door, dimensional anchor, immolation, lightning shield; 5th - cone of cold, passwall, sending, telekinesis; 6th - greater dispel magic, legend lore, mislead; 7th - delayed blast fireball, greater teleport, plane shift; 8th - discern location, greater planar ally, iron body; 9th - gate, starfall, wish.
Keen Senses (Ex): Illidan has blindsight 60 ft. and tremorsense 120 ft. Despite a lack of eyes, his other senses are so keen that he is aware of magic auras as though under the effects of a detect magic spell. Likewise, he can see invisible and ethereal creatures as though under the effects of a see invisibility spell. These abilities work all the time, even in magical darkness, areas of a silence spell's effect, and antimagic zones. Illidan is not subject to gaze attacks.
Shadowmeld (Ex): Illidan can blend into surrounding darkness. At night or in low-light environments, this extraordinary ability grants him a +10 circumstance bonus to Hide checks when not moving.
And to that you'd add the following template.
SKULL DEMON
When he destroyed the skull of Gul'dan and absorbed it's powers, Illidan gained the following benefits:
CREATING A SKULL DEMON
“Skull Demon” is an acquired template that can be added to any creature with Wisdom, Intelligence, and Charisma scores of at least 3. The creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature) uses all the base creature’s statistics and special abilities except as noted here.
Size and Type: The base creature’s type changes to Outsider with the Demonic and Evil subtypes. Do not recalculate base attack bonus or saves. Size is unchanged.
Hit Dice and Hit Points: The base creature’s Hit Dice are increased to at least d8. New Hit Dice that would normally be less than d8 are increased to d8 as well. Hit Dice that are d8 or better already are unaffected.
Speed: A skull demon grows demonic wings. Unless the base creature has a better fly speed, the creature can fly with a speed of 50 and average maneuverability.
Armor Class: The base creature’s hide thickens with demon flesh. Its natural armor improves to at least +10, if not already +10 or better.
Special Attacks: A skull demon retains all the special attacks of the base creature and gains the following special attacks.
— Demon Form (Ex): See the Manual of Monsters. Duration is 3 rounds + Cha modifier.
— Fel Blast (Ex): See the Manual of Monsters. Caster level is equal to the base creature's Hit Dice (to a maximum of 20). The saving throw DC is ½ HD + adjusted Cha modifier.
Special Qualities: A skull demon has all the special qualities of the base creature, plus the following special qualities.
— Demonic traits (see the Manual of Monsters).
— Outsider traits.
— Damage reduction 10/good.
— Resistance to acid 20 and cold 20.
— Spell resistance 10+HD (max 30).
Abilities: Increase from the base creature as follows: Str +8, Dex +4, Con +6, Int +2, Wis +4, Cha +4.
Challenge Rating: Same as the base creature +3.
Alignment: Always evil (any).
Level Adjustment: Same as base creature +9.
SKULL DEMON CHARACTERS
Skull demons are always evil, which causes characters of certain classes to lose some class abilities. Otherwise, a skull demon retains all class abilities it had in life.

That's got to be the most grossly overpowered DnD character I've ever seen  Even for a boss. I understand why it never got to print. 37 Cha and 6/10/9/9/9/9/8/8/8/8 spells? Ouch.
Interesting read though.

Illidan had to grind out levels in Outland for a longgg time to get level 35.
Assuming Level 20 in DnD would be 60 in WoW terms, that makes Illidan level 105. Hotness. and probably about right. Fighting him is like GoGo Level 1 Hogger Raid Zerg!

Want to know what the Lich King is like?
Oh and btw, you forgot to take that Skull Demon Template into consideration. So his actual stats would be: Str 32, Dex 31, Con 29, Int 18, Wis 26, Cha 41.

i wonder does he drop his two blades and if he does does would he drop one at a time or both at one time and what would the stats be?
would his weps be epic, blue,or legendary?
maybe they would not have stats and instead would be BoP and when you pick them up they give random stats to suit the player like if a caster picked them up they would get mana and intel and stuff ,
etc for other classes

I believe his weapons will be artifacts, ie. red in color. He will be the hardest boss in the expansion without a doubt, it seems suitable for him to drop artifact calibre items.

bookwise here is what illidan is: (warcraft books)
Warcraft:war of the ancients book one: he helps the main mage and night elfs defeat the evil undead scourge...
idk what happens in 2nd n 3rd books....
but i remeber hearing, seeing or soem1 sayign that after they win, illidan wants to become more powerful in magic...so he steals stuff from this magic lake, becomes evil, gets followers. so basically i thik this is how it goes down: his bro(malfurion stormrage) n some ppl kick illidans ass, but instead of killign him, they trap him in outland. then when they undead scorge r gunna ttack again, they set him free to help him
also
i just think this is how this is how it happens... im pretty sure but if im nto pls dont flame or w/e

Actually, Illidans two swords have been in game for ages, as Artifact quality level 70 weapons. 2 fast 1h swords that combine into a bigger slower 1h sword.
As its level 70 its quite possible that we'll be able to get our hands on 'em.
The main blade.

And how sure are we that we can fight Illidan in TBC....and are there any bosses beyond that? Hoping that WoW doesn't end with TBC but we get another expansion in a year or two...and another... ^^

Blue have said (at one point) that Illidan is currently the hardest mob in-game. Emphasis mine. That was several months ago, when folks asked who the toughest mob was currently in-game.
Think it was Tigole, could've been another Dev though, don't fully recall and trying to find something of such age on the official forums is like trying to turn Scrooge McDuck into a philanthropist
