Some guild mates and I got bored between BG's and decided to go farm for the crusader enchant for a while. It was Me, Mage, Rogue, level 56 shadow-specced priest.
We decided to run scholo and when they said "ok let's get a tank" I said "Nah just have my felguard MT" So we were a 4 man group with no tank except the fel guard.
It turns out the felguard can't really hold aggro that well if the mob he is tanking is getting whaled on by a rogue, warlock, and mage. I imagine he might do a little better if you give him a bit of time to build aggro, and if the group had worse gear. But then that might tax the healers. He functions perfectly well as an off-tank though.
Anyway it still turned out to be the smoothest scholo ever, but I think that had more to do with the fact that we are 3 high-DPS classes full of mixed PVP/ZG epics.
It was just a lot of fun to get away from the traditional "Mark all targets, sap, sheep, seduce, off tank" routine and just go "Ok send the felguard in there and then nuke everything down as fast as you can."
