I have a legitimate copy of Win XP but when I attempt to load Service Pack 2it freezes and never finishes the download. Do I need Service Pack 2 to run TBC?

Yes. It could run on Windows 98 if it had to. Xp Service pack 1 is not a problem. However, you should look into getting it somehow, for the valuable security improvements if nothing else. Last thing you need is a keylogger stealing your account details, and losing your characters. At least make sure you have a good firewall, like Zonealarm, that way you can prevent any keyloggers that do get onto your computer from sending transmissions of valuable data.

Are you sure it freezes? SP2 can take an absolute age to install and can frequently appear to freeze

Yes it does freeze unfortuantly. After 2 hours of trying to download a message claiming the process is not responding pops up. I have a good firewall and other programs to protect my computer. I was just wondering if I needed service pack 2 to run it. Thank you both for your help.
Oh, and Kalo did you mean Yes you need Service Pack 2 or Yes it will run without it. It sounds like you meant it would run without it.

You might try downloading it on another pc and putting it on a cd, or usb drive then loading it on your problematic computer in that fashion.

I might try doing that.

If you do it this way make sure you select the option 'Download and deploy SP2 to multiple computers' (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en) This will download a single file which you can then run on any XP machine. The other option just downloads & installs it for that specific machine. (thats assuming you're getting it from the microsoft website in the first place )

I agree with Clavinas link. Although the file is bigger than the windows update site version, this is because it includes all the drivers, it should install perfectly well. Also ensure that you disable your AV when you run it.
