View Full Version : So what happened to the 1 hour of extended downtime?

I open WoW, see that the maintenance is going to be an extra hour, and will be finished at 12:00pm CST. That is 1:00pm in my time, EST.
It is now 2:29pm EST and all realms are still down.
So I'm curious. Did Blizzard stay the course and perform a ****up with their maintenance, or did the patch cause an "unforeseen" problems which they would've caught if they didn't rush?
Or is actually a valid problem they didn't intend on?

Neither, you just misread.
Blizz always uses PST for their timezone, 12pm PST is 3pm EST mate. Still 30 mins.

Really?
Then why is the in-game time set to CST? If it's 9:00p here, the in-game clock says 8:00p.
I apologize then.

Wherever the server is located, is the timezone the server is set to. So if say a server is located in the east coast, it'll be set to EST. If your server is in central US then it'll be set to CST, etc.
Official announcements and such are set for their timezone, PST
The servers will be up when they are up - no amount of whinging and whining on the boards will hasten their return.
Patience is a virtue that is learned over time.

Thanks colindem, I didn't realize the realms were set to that time; I had figured Blizzard used the same time. Thanks. :)

whenever there is a patch... expect delays.

I was playing at noon EST. On The Venture Company.

Actually, no, some of the server timezone designations are arbitrary. They are not all physically located in the same timezone as the server clock is set to. (Much to the annoyance of some of us who have picked an "EST" realm, received horrible ping, investigated and discovered the server is on the west coast.)

Oh well, it was mostly a guest on my part. I always thought it was setup like that due to most servers that I logged into to check, the ping would always get higher the further the timezones went towards the west.
