I was wondering if someone could ansew a question me and a guild mate are having, They seem to think that you will only gain xp after level 60 from mobs within outland itself, but i was under the impression that you would get xp from mobs outside such as EPL. This is what i was originally planning on doing but now im not so sure, Anyone now for sure weather u will gain XP from mobs outside Outland or not?

Thanks.

As I understand it, you can earn XP outside the outlands at lvl 60 if you have your account activated for TBC. However, for mobs of the same level, those outside the Outlands give less XP than those in the Outlands. I'm not in the beta so I can't confirm this, and I also don't know if this is a Beta-only thing or if it's going live this way.

Mobs of higher lvl always giv more xp, but that a lvl 61 mob outside outland would yield more than one within sounds very strange to me...

My guess is that Devellopment don't want to over-swamp Outland, so the xp-gain will be relatively the same.

I plan to look around a bit beyond the portal, but my lvl-ing will be in the "old" worlds.

Can you imagine what a Hellish experience it would be? 2/3 of the serverpopulation on such a small area?
Maybe the Beta-servers have that mechanism in place so they can test the new areas; thats what the beta is about right?

As I said, I'm not in the beta so I can't confirm it, but a poster in another thread in this forum stated that this was the case with lvl 58 mobs (the lowest level mobs in Outland).

Personally, I don't agree that they wouldn't do this because they don't want Outland overcrowded. It's going to be overcrowded anyway, just because of the better drops, quest rewards, and "newness" of the zones. Oh, and from what I've heard, the zones are HUGE. I don't know how much server horsepower they've got for the Outland Zones, but I hope it's a lot.

Well I have 3 people and myself all well geared and well used to playing together with plans to run Stratholm both sides over and over as we know it well and can do it fast.

If I can get better XP in Outlands then that scuppers the plan a bit but I'll wait and see. Have a full quest log of 'completed' too so hope I can make use of it.

Oh, and from what I've heard, the zones are HUGE.

Others may believe the new areas are 'huge' but I do not...They are similar to other existing zones, maybe a bit bigger...Certainly, they are not 'huge', IMO.

Lag. The new instance will be generated for everyone on the same server so chances are it could get bad.

They may have re worked the mechanics to divide Instance locations dependant on people occupying as opposed to world region but If not I think the new instances for the first week or two will be full of people trying to avoid the mass ganking / camping of mobs etc.

And if there is no XP penatly on Azeroth, and given the experience people have with running Instances here I would suspect that its very much worth your while to grind out a level or so before you go anywhere!

Actually I was talking to a friend who is in BETA and one of the first things he said was that each zone in Outland is minimum of twice the size of the average Azerothian Zone.

I'm glad of this as I loved the expansive feel of MMO's Like Star Wars Galaxies. However this reduces the chance of random encounter World PvP that I much prefer to BG's unless Blizz have figured out a way to make World PvP workable.

Hard to judge the exact size of a zone without a stopwatch and a straight run the full width of the zone.

Part of the impression of hugeness comes from the fact that Hellfire Peninsula is (subjective guess from my experience) 1.25 times the size of EPL. Unlike EPL tho its wide open, with very few significant terrain obstacles and not exactly a ton of obvious landmarks. THat plus the plethora of quests that have you running all over the zone gives the impression of vast size.

I've quested in every zone (sitting at 69 now) and I'd guess that the zones are maybe 5-15% larger than your average high level zone in Azeroth if that. I expect that from the back of a flying mount it will all seem smaller tho.

My plan was to get a group of mates and just keep running the 5 mans over and over, and solo grind in EPL or sili untill im about 61/62, but know im not so sure, As long as Blizz allows you to get normal XP from the mobs in Aza i'll be happy. I will visit Outland to see what its like but i think its gonna be so croweded especially with me being on a full server that i will have a better chance leveling up in Aza.

Grinding, whether in Azeroth or in Outland, is a far slower method of levelling than questing. Quests give 12-20x the xp a mob kill does, and you are often doing both at the same time.

If you're worried about server crowding, just hit HH to grab the quests for Hellfire Citadel, then go do instance runs there. You'll get much better drops too.
