I've heard rumors that there are some BSing, LWing, enchanting, and Tailoring recipes that will make items which ONLY the character who creates/enchants it can use. Has anyone heard any confirmation of this anywhere?

This is a little distressing to me, as I'm currently sitting with a bunch of characters with supportive professions for other characters. I have a level 60 priest (tailoring/mining), a level 34 warrior (BSing/Minging--although I plan to change mining to jewelcrafting), a 36 hunter (Skinning/Engineering), and a level 30 rogue (Enchanting/LWing). I will no longer be able to enchant for my other characters or use LWing to make gear for my hunter.

It's true. If you look on Thott you'll find a load of BoP weapons that "require: Master Swordsmith" (for example).

Also, in the game as of this patch, there are some lvl 40-something blue leggings that armoursmiths can make that are BoP.

No different in principle to the BoP tailoring items that were around - Robe of the Void, etc.

It's not all the gear that's like this, though.

Not only is this the case, but there are craftable BOP items that you can upgrade the higher your skill gets. I've heard that you can upgrade to EPIC and eventually Legendary Items from the same (probably green) original schematic! Seems like a cool concept.

Its not a new concept.
Engineering uses it as long as I can remember.

I've gotten a recipie like that already. Smoking heart of the mountain. Anything you craft that is BoP can only be used by the crafter.

What I think you're talking about are items that require a specific specialty to use. Things that say "requires tribal leatherworking to use". Not technically character specific, but good luck finding another tribal leatherworker who hasn't made their own.

I think this is Blizzard's attempt to give meaning to the crafting professions. Every newly minted 60 rogue wants a devilsaur set, but you'll be hard pressed to sell a crafted item to someone who's got molten core epics.

And let's say you do have a rare and useful pattern; the materials to make it sort of prohibit marketing it. You want HOW many arcanite bars? And essence of air? You make one, after spending days farming it, and you can barely get back the cost of the materials selling it, there's better gear on the market.

But what if you knew that you could get a really kick butt set of gear by leveling up your professinos, that you couldn't just manage it by farming materials. What if it was comporable to the gear you'd get spending that time raiding, or in PvP. It'd give you a reason to pay attention to that stuff.
