So I'm a new WoW player, I've dabbled with a gnome warrior but want to be the new Draenei Race.
My only problem is should I go Shaman or Priest? I want to be good at PVP but still be able to get in raids, guilds, and not be overpopulated. I know it's like asking to be everything but like I said I'm still learning the ins/outs of everything.
Any comments, suggestions? Quick responses are most appreciated.
My initial thought is to be a Shaman because it's sort of a good time to jump in, like a fresh start. But then I was thinking with the Priest I could fit in since I heard there's not too many healers.

priest IMO.
There will be a TON of shammies b/c its the first time the Ally side can get them. Priest have no problem getting in groups/raids/guilds and are to be feared in pvp.

Side note:
I am going Dran. Pally.
Word on the grapevine is shammys are not moving at the same rate in BC as the rest- they aren't able to heal as well in raids or do as much dmg in pvp. From what I hear it isn't a Blizz nerf, but more of a accidental nerf. They will probably compensate for it as we start getting to 70, but still...
again - just gossip, but something to consider.

I was originally going for a Shaman because they are an incredible class to play. When my Tauren Shaman was rumbling along he was unstoppable, a veritable bull's rush of mad, snorting Tauren elementalism. It was gorgeous.
With the Draenei, I'm also tempted to choose Priest. From my previous experience though I know that I never enjoy playing a Priest/Monk/Healer quite as much as someone with a bit more versatility.
Being wanted in groups is one thing. Enjoying your character is another. So - I would recommend that you look at the respective roles of those two classes and determine which one's play style appeals to you the most.
Play that one, no matter if there is going to be ten thousand of them at launch. Over time those numbers will be whittled down as people drop them in favour of classes they know and love and the ones who enjoy playing Shaman will be the ones still playing them and getting into the end-game content with them.

First, I want a draino toon b/c I like them, so it was a decision on class.
My current toons:
22 hunter troll
20 warrior gnome
23 mage gnome
27 warlock gnome
35 hunter night elf
54 rogue human
60 priest human
That leaves pally, druid, and shammy.
I tried a druid once and barly escaped suicide by lvl 10. I hate lvling them. Props to you druids out there, i couldn't do it. I hear lvl 20 is the point where it gets better, but I can even get there.
So... pally or shammy. i figure there will be many many shammys and with the nerf rummor I went with pally. It was close anyway and I think I will be happy with either. I have also watch paladins do some incredible things. They just go and go and go. I don't ever attack one in pvp. They can fight for 3 days played before they go low on mana/health -then suddenly - bam- full health. Then bam - they have this magic sheild. Problem was, their dps was kinda lacking- blizz fixed that. Screw it- if you can't beat'em - join em.

You won't get any better advise than that....go for the one you know you'll enjoy and be passionate about. Don't go for one because you think you'll be wanted more, every char is handy in a group for one reason or another, so go with one you know you'll enjoy being.

Yeah shammies will be over populated same thing applies to the horde about pala's, i suggest priest i havent yet played as one for a long time but they are always needed, i plan to go for the warrior approach because i find taking so fun lol,i would give it about 1-2months for the shammie population to cut down and for there to be some good things to say about it really, i will be getting burning crusade n feb 2 my b-day :D and no doubt i will leave my allie chars and go horde for blood elves muahahahahahahaha lol

warriors in any game are great as tankers, also can deal a great deal on damage. Never enough room for one. But like stated, you have to play for yourself and what you like, play em all then maybe you can master 1 or 2.
Its hard for anyone to tell you how or what to play.
HAVE FUN!

/agree xagros. Try the classes out yourself. That is the best way :) experimentation is the mother of creation

i too am rolling a Draenei Paladin mainly because i love melee combat and found that with the ability to heal im always vital to a group and if need be i can also solo real quick through all the quests (healing reduces downtime a lot when compared to say, a solo Warrior)
that and i liked how the Draenei lore makes them suited to be the ideal Paladins (i.e. they were followers of the Light eons before any of the other races)... but of course that has nothing to do with gameplay but i like to be immersed in that sort of thing, makes me feel important and heroic
