I don't have my TOS at hand- Does blizz say no to odd characters in your name? I see them quite often and even have one toon that uses a ì, but have been told it might be against the rules.

I realize it can be hard to report someone when you can't type the name you are reporting - but I have never seen this enforced. I have even submitted a ticket under my charecter and they didn't say anything.

just curious…

Well, I don't believe there is any problem with it in the ToS, since those "odd characters" are actually used in other languages than English. It does make communication with those people difficult (on a US keyboard), however.

Depends on your exact reading.

Rules of Conduct.
As with all things, your use of the Program is governed by certain rules of conduct. These rules of conduct (the "Rules of Conduct"), maintained and enforced exclusively by Blizzard, must be adhered to by all users of the Service. It is your responsibility to know, understand and abide by these Rules of Conduct. The following rules are not meant to be exhaustive, and Blizzard reserves the right to determine which conduct it considers to be outside the spirit of the Game and to take such disciplinary measures as it sees fit up to and including termination and deletion of the Account. Blizzard reserves the right to modify these Rules of Conduct at any time.

1. Rules Related to Usernames and Guild Designations.

Each user will either select a character name or allow the Program to automatically select a character name at random. Additionally, users may form "guilds" and such guilds will be required to choose a name for the guild. When you choose a character name, create a guild, or otherwise create a label that can be seen by other players using the Program, you must abide by the following guidelines as well as the rules of common decency. If Blizzard finds such a label to be offensive or improper, it may, in its sole and absolute discretion, change the name, remove the label and corresponding chat room, and/or suspend or terminate your use of the Program.

In particular, you may not use any name:

That utilizes "Leet" or "Dudespeak" (e.g., "Roflcopter", "xxnewbxx", "Roxxoryou")

It could be used to nail someone with a lot of the characters you mentioned, especially if they're being a pain as is. Makes it harder for folks to put them on ignore, thus furthering possible harrassment.

Mind you, you'll want to read the new ToS anyway, they've added a few new articles.

Compare to the old one still up here (http://www.wow-europe.com/en/legal/termsofuse.html), that one should still be listed as dating to: October 24, 2006

My dwarf hunter was named "Dænjàw" until someone reported it and I had to change it. Apparently it messes with the communication rules. So in answer yes Blizzard does not like this and will make you change it. Too bad, 'cause I liked it...

Thats weird. On my server (Sylvanas EU) there are loads of people with "odd" characters in their names, doesn't really bother my too much. If it means something in their native tongue then who am I to complain

I've heard it go either way. You see a lot of people with them in there name but for the most part I don't think they really care all too much.

Unless of course there being a jerk, and GM's can nail them for anything for fun :P

Won't happen quite as much on the European servers, as all to the scandivians those are 'normal' characters.

when i played on US servers you could use æøå in your character name

being from norway i have no problems writing these letters, i once saw this person with a few of those letters in his name and sent him a tell which surprised the recipient quite alot since he didnt expect anyone to go and figure out the ascii codes for the letters. He said he picked such a name to avoid random tells and tells from gold sellers etc

On EU servers its legal to use "weird letters" but your name still has to follow the general naming guidelines, you cant name a character "Ææåøæøæøåø" for example

On US servers, it is a violation of the naming policy to use accented and non-English characters.

Inappropriate
This category includes both clear and masked names which:

...

Consist of any alphanumeric character not normally found on a standard 101/102 key keyboard (O§iri§, Ÿelena, Jašon; Does not apply to Guild or Pet Names unless used to impersonate an existing guild, or could be considered pure gibberish.)

...

as stated here (http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowgm/?id=agm01723p#inappropriate).

On European servers however, this item is not included. See here (http://www.wow-europe.com/en/policy/namingp2.html).
