So, I just ran the furnace in HFC for the first time. I was healing 2 guildies, a hunter and mage, and 2 PUG's (shaman and warrior). During our second encounter with mobs, we realized that our warrior had a full rage bar, which wasn't moving. I made a mention about it in a whisper to a guild member..and we watched during the next fight. He didn't taunt once. There wasn't a single sunder armor on any mob he was attacking. However, he WAS in defensive stance, and using a shield. The hunter's pet was taking all the damage. I, of course, noticed this, as I was healing...but I paid it little attention as pets have been given a big aggro boost.
Well, I made a mention that he should be trying to keep enemies off of the other members in the group. I told him he should be using taunt and sunder armor. He responded, "sorry guys. very bad lag." Well...we continue for the next 4 or 5 fights...he hasn't taunted once. During those fights, the mage or shaman would draw aggro, and call out "Taunt!" We bring it up again, and he says "yeah. weird. it's not working."
Because of excellent crowd control and a hunter who was very keen with his pet, we made it all the way to the final boss before finally giving up. We wiped twice at the second boss--because I ran out of mana from having to heal so many people. But those were our only 2 deaths before the final boss. When someone listed the damage taken, the shaman and mage had both taken more damage than our tank. The shaman had taken nearly twice as much.
I can't believe this was a problem with lag. I just can't. You'd be able to throw in a sunder armor or taunt here or there from spam clicking it. Instead, I assume he had paid someone to level his character to 60 (he was 61, when running the instance), and had never heard of either taunt or sunder armor...and hadn't put them on his action bar.
Anyone else have stories about arbitrary excuses for bad play?
