Well have you started an account or played the trial yet?

Apart from the manual, there's also the Brady guide to the game (you'll find it on amazon if you just search for "world of warcraft", I don't know if I'm allowed to link it or not). It's useful, but sometimes very out of date; if you don't feel it's too expensive then I'd say it's still worth buying as it does give you a lot of information about the different classes, zones, professions, etc. It won't make you a better player though - reading the class forums on wow-europe.com or worldofwarcraft.com or here will do more.

Just give the game a shot....anything you will need to know you will learn along the way.

The first zone you start in will give you the "low-down" on how to quest, loot, buy items, equip gear, learn abilities, use abilities, etc.

I got the Brady's game guide with the purchase of the game, read through it, and still didn't know what I was doing. Read through this site, use its item database, and play the game!

I'm going to be evil and pimp my own post (http://forums.worldofwar.net/showthread.php?t=383219) here. Managed to snag the Brady Games book a while ago and I found it to be reasonably useful as a new player.

Alternatively, WowWiki has a fabulous introductory section for new players which has pointed guides to help you get through the first few levels with your class and start headign in the right direction.
