Hello! I want to know, where you have a section for advertising at a forum? Or it is not present? I have not found it.
P.S. Are you see storm in Europe? It's a horror...

On the main page, there is a picture of a gorilla head on the left had side of the screen. Click it for the information!
Storm?

Storm?
Perhaps referring to the one that blew over Europe last Thursday, with reported gales up to force 12. Reports are around 45 people spread over several countries got killed I think.
Aside from that, odd original post, wonder where this is leading.... :ponder:

Thats crazy....I guess I should turn on the news every now and then?

I was wondering the same thing....but the post was polite enough...and the lack of perfect grammar I disregarded to EU's many languages. I'd rather see posts like this all day then the pron pis that show up over in Off-topic.

Thing is, some virus builders are using the storm to spread their work. Make folks think that there's news/photo's about it and then whack, you've run into some trouble.
As for the initial question. Not quite sure what to make of it, but I'll let the Bossman and Bosslady worry about it.

Oh really, for the record, the poster themselves can select which icon will be placed next to their post. Some are indeed rather useful and indicative as to what the thread will be about. Question, jest, angry, warning, idea, disapproval etc. Not quite sure, what the others are useful for, but eh. *shrugs*

Yup, I noticed. But because humans can pick it too.. Eh.. Makes it harder to say, ok, this is automatically spam and this is not. For all I know, it could be an actual newbie, whom you folks just scared off with all your chattering of beeping and biting etc..

Clauser, there is not a section for advertising here, because we simply don't allow it. This forum's bandwidth is not meant to be used for free advertising. If that is what you seek, you can take it elsewhere. If not, welcome.

a legitimate point, but I would find it to be a wild coincidence that every new member comes to the OTF, makes an incoherent, and often link filled first post, uses the paper icon, and never replies to the thread

True, but then the ones with links we can bust straight away. The ones without.. Innocent until proven guilty, I'm afraid.. No links or no links, which violate our rules and there really is no justification to nail them.
Heck, if we were to get really really technical about it, and I've done so in the past with folks who just wouldn't behave. Both this thread and the Ana newbie thread are also examples of spam and type of chatroom chatter, which is also a violation of the forum rules, and which should occur in the IRC channel. I and the other Mods have received a complaint about these threads.
So I could act.....
Then again, this is Freet's forum, though we seem to have temporarily misplaced him, so it's his call to make. It becomes ours, if we were to learn that he's not coming back and that this forum becomes a general policing area, like a lot of the class forums.
*Small edit*
And it looks like Freet has been issued some long overdue R&R. Meaning this forum has just become a general policing area. Whether or not you folks should be pleased with that..
That's up to you to decide. :sinister:

yep, those are the tricky ones when they don't have a link to make them obvious, but then they do become spam sandwiches, then again there are no shortage of those in this forum
and I know freet resigned from his d2 mod position

Plaese don't shut down the main spam thread, it's keeping the incomprehensible misuse of the English language in one place. If it's closed, the idiocy might spread.

Just for the record. I'd rather have the spammers posting a single: "hi, I'm new here message" and not try and advertize anything either by overt or covert way. Saves us a lot of work, which is why I don't google every potential spam post.
And even in this case, the post was harmless enough. The less is said about those posts, the less one posts in it, the quicker it drops into the oblivion of forgetfullness. Thread-jacking due to insecurity on the other hand.. That's a wee bit more problematic, because it signifies future problems looming overhead.
But, I'll be nice and kitbash together a quick version of our 10 commandments on these forums, with several added points to ensure that everyone is on the same page here. That way no one can claim that they were caught unaware, or that they were unable to find a way to appeal a ban.
Oh and lest I forget.. *Point to Moderator tag*
Makes us immune to mind influencing effects. So, you can flirt all you want, but it's going to get you absolutely nowhere.. Well, it might increase likelyhood of banning, due to the increased annoyance factor.. But we'll see how that goes.

Coy, shmoy.
By the way, we had the exact same post in the GWO forums and decided to just delete it. The concensus was that it was either a preamble to some spam linking, or a failed one.
