...The Burning Crusade...

I stoped playing about 3-4 months ago after my 3rd Guild QQ'ed and disbanded. I moved (in RL) and wasn't on for 2 weeks when this all happened. I joined a new guild and got busy for a week and got dropped. After that is when I went on hiatus for 3 months.

I really liked the game when it first came out. Then I got to 60 and it was frustarting till I got into an end game guild. I noticed I went from 20 casual hours a week of playing to 30 Hours of "had to be there time". I.e. it became a priority in RL. Raiding end game was intense and I never missed playing more then 1-2 days.

The Question:
Would you suggest I pick up the expansion?

If it will feel like the game I played when I first started, I'd be more inclined to make the purchase...I miss the casual playing...like a few hours whenever, instaed of having to play at certain times.

Thanks

Raiding is boring for me and I will never do another 25 or 40 man raid ever again. Im so much happier now then when I was playing the DKP turntable. With the new honor change "casuals" can now get epic gear over a matter of time.

It does feel very much like when you first started playing. When you first set foot on Hellfire Peninsula and pick up your first quests, it's like when you first set foot in the Valley of Trials (or wherever). You are basically starting again with brand new areas, brand new story lines, brand new instances and (unless you were a Naxx guild) largely irrelevant equipment. This last week has given me a newfound enthusiasm for the game.

However, it's only fair to point out that once you reach level 70, it will be just the same as before. It will be a choice of hardcore raiding or go level an alt. But look on the bright side, at least you can level an alt in a race you haven't played before.

And note...the isntances (even if you suck) only take about an hour to an hour and 15. It is nice....but there are a TON of people...

Raiding doesn't allways have to be Hardcore.

Sure, the top guilds are hardcore, 6 hours a night 6 nights a week type of thing.

There are the more casual guilds, maybe 2 nights a week, give up when they feel like it type of guilds.

It all depends on what suits the player. You don't even have to raid, maybe groups to the 5-10 man instances are enough for you?

from the perspective of someone who is new to wow, I'm really glad of the xpack changes. the idea of having to join a pure raid guild, mandatory meetings so many times a week for several hours at a time. i will never have time for that and so i'm glad i'll never have to do it with tbc.

Let's also not forget that most instances can be made more difficult- so even as you get better, wouldn't need to find 24-39 other friends to go with you... just 4.

I agree with what everyone else has stated though- it feels very much like it did when I first started playing... Hellfire P. gives the same feel as a new starting zone for everyone.

I do the casual thing, just play a few hours here or there. I don't raid, run instances, do BG's, or anything else that might require me to devote more time than I have available (I could have to leave at a moment's notice). TBC definitely was a nice buy for me.

Raiding and casual are not mutually exclusive. I'm in a casual guild that raids, or at least we used to prior to TBC. Once we start hitting a critical mass of people at 70, I'm sure we'll start hitting the new 25 man content. For us, raids are like a big party where we kill stuff. It's not the world's most effective strategy for progression, but it works for us.

For now, I'm having fun soloing, grouping for instances, and just having a good time looking around. So far I've made it to 63 and it doesn't feel like I've actually put real effort into it. Levelling is something that's happened as a result of doing fun stuff.

Exactly. Right now im not attempting to level, im attempting to finish my quests. It's perfectly fine to do it the way your describing, play some hours and maybe finish a quest or two.
