I am a dwarf and I am revered with SW and about halfway to Exalted. I have done most of the quests that seem to be related SW and I am not really that close to exalted: what can I do to get there?

Turn in runecloth at the cloth quartermaster. He's located near the tailoring trainer.

Does this mean that to get exalted in Ironforge, the old biddy that wants a billion tons of wool is the one to do?
I've always left that quest alone because of the obvious boredom factor.

Yes, you have to do a wool turnin first, then a silk turnin, then a mageweave one, then you get a repeatable runecloth turnin. 50 rep per 20 runecloth or something.

It apparently takes over 400 stacks of runecloth to go from beginning of revered to honored. I'm at about 4,000 into revered for Stormwind, and simple calculation comes to about 213 stacks. That's either a lot of grinding or a lot of gold at the AH.
And as I was told in a thread here, there's really no huge bonus to getting exalted with a faction. I'm a Night Elf and I want the rep simply so I can ride a horse.

Can't you get a horse as a battleground/PvP reward? 30 tokens from each of the three old BGS...
It'd be easier (and cheaper) to get the BG mount.

Darn that is a lot of cloth turn in. I don't want a horse that badly! And PvP...bleh! I don't want a horse that badly...
At least there are plenty of quests to gain rep with SW... I recently decided I want to ride a 'robot chicken' and there aren't any gnome quests outside of gnomer.
Only 184 stacks of runecloth left :-)

Huh? I'm only lvl36 and even I'm nearly exalted (80% of the way there I guess). Are none of your chars humans? You should be able to get to revered by lvl25 (if I remember, might've been even less!) as a human.

I'm a Night Elf, but I'm a Night Elf who wants a horsie.

Cyks, what race are you? I think it's only dwarves and gnomes that can ride a robo-chook?

If I was human I would not need to be exalted with SW to get a horse: it is my default mount!

I know, I wasn't thinking of mounts, just reputation levels in general

After patch 2.0.1 rep gains raised considerably, now yielding 250-350 rep for quests that used to give 25-100, hence a lot easier than before. Of course that's a bit of a bummer for my priest who did every SW quest conceivable and in the book to gain SW rep to see how far I could get without turning in cloth.
Oh well, I'm still not exalted but now I've moved on to Outlands, so.. meh.
