Alchemists have paths available?

I'm 300, and I never had to choose a path. I thought, and still think, Alchemy is a one-way street; you just upgrade and train until you hit 300.

If BC introduced paths, then I wouldn't know, but I don't think it did. It just gave a 375 max and new potions and herbs.

Yeah, there is no "path" like a blacksmith...

Are the new potions available as a drop only? I went to the trainer, but he didnt have anything new for me....

Actually Alchemy does have "paths", or specializations. They are however different from the Leatherworking and Blacksmithing ones, in that you don't get locked out from some of the recipes - i.e. a 375 Alchemist can still create all potions/elixirs and do all the transmutes. In short, the specialization for Alchemy are Potions Master, Elixirs Master and Master of Transmutations. With each of these, you'll have a X% chance to create an additional resource while creating that potion/elixir or doing the transmute.

I have no idea when you get the quest for it, though. Presumably it's linked to skill, and 350/375 in Alchemy might be a good guess as to when you're able to pick up this quest.

@SwervinCL:
There are new recipes available from the Alchemy trainer in Outland (in Honor Hold, in my case). He had new recipes for me up to (iirc) 330 in Alchemy. Gaining reputation with different factions will give you most of the other recipes, and afaik there are also some recipes that are drops.

If it's anything like tailor, you'll receive a quest for your 'path' at level 65 at the specialist's that give you some recipes that are meant for that path. You may also need to be at the skill of 350 since for Tailor, you can only make Primal Mooncloth/Spellcloth/Shadowcloth at level 350, however I was already at this level at level 65 so I'm not certain.

Elixirs: http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=10902
Pots: http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=10897
Transmutes: http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=10899

Requires 350 skill but quests require by the looks of it 69-70.

This must be new to the expansion then? I didn't know that paths existed. Thats cool. Gives me a reason to keep leveling my alchemy.

Yes, it seems you need drops from the Opening of the Dark Portal wing (aka Black Morass) of the Caverns of Time - and this is a 5-man lvl 70 dungeon. This is for the Elixirs specialization, which is what I'm personally most interested in. The Potions quest sends you to the Botanica in Tempest Keep, another lvl 70 dungeon.

The Transmutations quest is a bit different, as that requires you to turn in 3 x Primal Might. I suppose that could be doable prior to lvl 70, but you do need at least 350 in Alchemy to pick up the transmute recipe for that. That recipe can be picked up in Shattrath, but I don't know what the requirements are - i.e. if you need reputation to get it or if you simply buy it from a vendor.

you buy that transmute from a vendor. My issue is finding other recipes to level up from 350-375. Can't find any new recipes. Finally I got the Major frost protection recipe off the last boss in mana tombs last night that was learnable at 360 and I made agility pots (which were green) until I got there... now I need to find some mote of water.
