V.A. (or any other mod that stops by!)

I was wondering what is meant by "Back-to-back posting." I understand that you don't want the same poster to post 4 times in a row, but whatabout every other post, regarding content that was being brought up in the "in-between post"?

Something like:

Me: So when do I get to train a pet?

You: At level 10.

Me: When can I feed it?

You: After you finish the quest.

or should it have been:

Me: When do I get to train a pet? EDIT: When can I feed it?
You: At level 10. EDIT: After you complete the quest.

I seem to post similar to the first example a ton. As do a lot of other members, just wanted to see what your thoughts were. I know that the second example is short and not all that intensive, but most posts seem to be rather detailed.

I guess that once it starts looking like IRC chat (certain post on this forum *cough*) you're crossing the line.

General idea is, if it takes less than 15 seconds to say, it's probably not worth having said at all. Go for indepth, detailed posts. Posts that contribute nothing or are diliberately devoid of content are spam. If it's just one person to another person it belongs in PMs. Try and ask the obvious questions together instead of individually, and when answering try to forfill the most obvious follow up questions so they need not be asked.

i'm pretty sure they mean no double posting, ie. use the edit button ;)

Tanitha

It's double posting.

If you are the last poster in the thread and want to add something, edit your last post if it is possible. (1 hour after original post) If it is not possible you are allowed to add a new post. If someone else has posted you can add a new post regardless of the edit limit.

What a lot of people do is they read through a thread while having their morning coffee and reply to each interesting post they see. That ends up with them having 3 to x posts all back to back. Mods like it when they create one reply to ALL the people they want to respond to. They don't like those back to back posts as it simply clutters things.

From my experiences as a mod, if you double post frequently you get flagged - which means your every move is under scrutiny.

By back to back posting, we mean the same person making two or more posts in the same thread in rapid succession without someone else first adding a post that would be inbetween the two.

So for example, if Stigg posts a thread and Kcma posts a reply then Oatmealsmurf posts a reply then Kcma replys again and then Stigg posts twice in a row before anyone else replies, this is what we refer to when we say back to back posting. Howeverit's undderstandable if the person (be it the thread starter or someone else) actually has something constructive to add to the discussion going on or a few hours have passed, this is a different story. Depending on the forum, some mods will interpret this one differently.

This, from The DII Community Forum's Rules and Links Thread (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=495535)explains it a bit more simply:

Double-Posting: “Double-posting” is defined as making two posts in a row in the same thread. If you submit a post and suddenly remember something you want to add, use the “Edit” button located below your post to add material. The “Edit” feature may be used to modify your post for up to an hour after its creation.

Lastly depending on the nature of the thread, double posting can be allowed.

I was wondering the same. I believe he has only about 10 posts here....maybe that whole thing awhile back made post count start over on these boards while it didn't on the D2 boards....

And I don't love ana enough to up my post count by 300 like some people *cough* kcma *cough*

Darling Stigg.

kcma: 15.71 posts per day.
tanitha: 9.33 posts per day.
stigg: 3.39 posts per day.

Of course, we can cut kcma's down to 0.05 posts per day comparatively because he writes one-liners, while either of us tend to approach a post frothing at the mouth with a self inflicted verbosity ...

But - I'm not pulling my weight? Ha!

How dare you catch me before I edited my post! Haha...that was REALLY up there for about 10 seconds while I pulled it down and edited it!
And I do like the .05 posts per day by kcma. I think there should be a word count!

But you did call me darling! Woot me!

To save on confusion for later. I think about 50% of the posts I post get one form or another of an edit within 2 minutes of me posting it.

my word count will be bigger than all of your word counts. not only do i post vigorously, i intensely make each post big and heavy. so ha! one liners? sure we all have them here and there. but surely my ratio of one liner isn't different from yours :)

think about it. if we both have 20% 1 liner... you'd have 1 a day and i'd have 3. sure i have 3 times more 1 liner than u do, but that's only because i also have 3 times more carefully crafted and insightful posts <3

Forum history lesson!

All the forums (Dii, WoW, warcraft III and gwonline) used to be combined - an account on one of these forums meant that you had one on the other as well. I can log on to the gwonline and the warcraft III forums, for instance, although I never had to register there.

Then the forums split up and every account became a separate account. With separate postcounts. So for the sake of example, let's say Ash had 16k posts on his account when the forums split, that would mean he made about 1000 posts here and 9k on D2 forums.

Stigg
25-01-2007, 12:42 AM
Thanks snow! I wondered about that too. I went to the D2 forums and tried to post in the OT forum....but I had to sign in....which failed. So I registered...and my PC was 0. /sigh

Dondrei is rapidly catching up to Ash's post count, by the way, and pretty rapidly. I think he might be approaching, or already have reached, 20,000 posts and he's only been a member for around a year.

This thread and it's links actually made me go back to the D2 forums for a while. Was amazed I could still remember my old PW.
Forums are still the same though, still bickering and e-peen flaunting in the PvP forums, old West vs East wars, made me a bit nostalgic. Might even reinstall D2 for a while and play a bit.

Postcountwise I came over here right before the split with about 400.

I'm not crazy about this posting about posting, but, here is what you need to do

get an avatar of a woman, you have a theory that people respond to women more right? well there you go, you have visual stimuli, and perhaps you will be motivated to post more just to gawk at your own avatar

or you could play the game or something, your choice
