View Full Version : What instance have you solo'd at 70?

I actually haven't tried to go back and solo anything yet, but I wonder if anyone has gone back and done so for fun. And if so, what's the hardest instance you can handle?
I'm thinking that with some work I could solo Scholomance (Warlock here) and I know that parts of Dire Maul have been solo'd. Somehow I don't really see LBRS/UBRS as being soloable yet.

We had a druid solo up to (and including rend). We had a 2 man (Druid and warrior) solo UBRS...entirely.
All the other instances (scholo/strat/etc.) have been solod as a druid. Fully buffed the guy has over 18,000 health.
We had a 5 man rogue team complete the 45 minute baron run in *iirc* 21 minutes.
I, personally, haven't gone back and solod anything yet...although at 68 You can easily walk by any mob.

Since solo == 1, the solo has gone as far as Rend then....
That is actually quite an accomplishment...I'll have to try that when I get some time...
The aggro radius makes a huge difference- as mentioned, you can walk by most mobs.
My biggest question about solo'ing is what do you do against the bosses that mind control you? I've attempted Strat a few times now (lvl 67 hunter in OutLand greens/ lvl 65 Wind Serpent pet) and really haven't had too many issues except with the Baroness. I pull her, sick my pet on her and start shooting... then she possesses me. Eventually she'll have me kill my pet- and then I just stand there at her side until the 2 minutes wears off. As soon as I become free, she resets herself.
I can skip her and kill most of the other bosses... but that doesn't help me in getting to him. How does one go about killing her alone (without being a pally and bubbling out of it)?

I solod Sunken temple at level 67(hunter) for the leather/dragon scales. I couldnt kill the dragon boss guy though that fears or sleeps or whatever he does.

At 60, I had soloed Mara a few times up to and including Princess, DM East (although ultimatly ended up having a friend help me kill Lethardis to save time and by solo i pretty much would just run through instance killing trash to get to herbs although I did solo imp boss) a few times, and farmed the entrance to DM West for libram drops.
Post BC I have not tried any solo runs, but i feel it could be doable as to date I have killed all elites on recomended 2-3 group solo.
I think as a warlock..scholo would be doable but it would be slow...I also think at 65+ farming Strat Live would be totally doable with 2 ppl.

See a lot of 70s with crusader enchants.... but maybe they're farming them themselves.

Maybe, but there will forever be people out there who refuse to farm mats for themselves and would rather just buy them off the AH. Instant gratification, laziness, whatever you want to call it -- it translates to gold for those of us who don't mind investing the time.

Crusader got a nerf...thats why they won't be selling all that well.

Typing fast is ftl. I meant 2 (druid and warrior) duo'ed Drakk. The druid actually cleared everything excluding The Beast and Drakk. There was a total of 5 of us in the instance...we were getting our 62 pally attuned for BWL and Ony! The guy is a beast though...got to 70 then started raiding with a different guild while he was waiting for us to level up.

Hogger.
Took a while, a real epic battle, but eventually dropped him. And I was only 61 at the time ...

lol.
I really did solo hogger the other day and was proud of myself... it was on my new pally- lvl 9 vs lvl 10 elite. I am now lvl 12 and have him on Farm status.
Lesson of the Day: Pallys just don't die.

On my mage, I frequently level up my skll by hitting squirrels and stuff with my sowrd as I walk by. I was out in Mulgore the other day while I was level 65. I passed a Squirrel....so I attacked. Missed. So I do a jump spin to fireblast it. Resisted. I laugh, tell my guildies about it and go up to it for a sword swing. Miss. Tell myguildmates about it again....got really pissed off at it and...Pop my ZHC charm, and pyroblast it. RESISTED. Finally, I Cone of Colded it and it died.
It worked out to be like a 1 in 10 million chance of that happening.

Speaking of solo instances, I wish Blizzard would actually support that. In DDO, there are a bunch of different difficulty settings for dungeons. WoW has normal and epic now, perhaps they'll add solo eventually
Not for the big raid ones, obviously. But some instances like ramparts would do nicely with a solo mode.

You couldn't heal or mana up without crazy $$$$ pots or a shrine thingy, even out in the town you didn't regen till you hit an inn.
Of course I didn't get very far in it so I could have missed out on a lot.

Well at least I can already tell that uldaman isn't soloable, confirmed because I tried it at level 60.
Why not? Because you can't activate the altars to open the last two doors.

This is just self-aggrandising nonsense! Post screenshots if you expect us to believe such an outrageous claim! Like anyone could solo him, sheesh. Level 80 cap hasn't come in yet, lern2lie, nub!!!one
(etc. etc. Sorry, couldn't resist)
That said, the first time I even *saw* Hogger was when I was helping out a lowbie lock just before TBC hit, as I have never levelled a lowbie in human lands. I either use UDish lands or nelf lands depending on faction, or more latterly Bloodymyst isle.
I made darn sure that I made a lot of fuss when I saw TEH UBARHOGG and was overly dramatic about killing him.. with a lv 60 hunter dripping in purples, ahem. I did have to spam "HOGGER DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!" in /g, too.
Back on topic, I haven't bothered to go back and solo anything, but I did help someone out by piggy tanking the end boss of Hellfire Ramparts the other day. Everyone loves piggy.

Last night I planned to run just the bosses of Scholo, and skip as much trash as possible.
I made it to Rattlegore by only killing 8 mobs. They were not difficult as they had no more than 8800 HP, which isn't that much more than level 70 non-elites.
I wiped once by accidentally pulling 3 dragon groups with SoC, and once by pulling Rattlegore + 2 adds.
After rezzing and pulling Rattlegore, it wasn't really that difficult of a fight. I know you can kite him by going up the stairs and falling down the hole, but since I hadn't cleared the mobs that wasn't an option. My felguard held aggro until 50%, then I used soul shatter and dropped aggro until 24%. But my dots were ticking hard by then and he dropped quickly. I think I ended with 50% health, 60% mana, and my felguard at 50% health.
After Rattlegore I had to log. It took me 24 minutes, including the two wipes. After repairing, vendoring, and selling my runecloth on the AH, I came out 9g ahead. That's not really very good.
I'm gonna try again tonight, clearing all the trash mobs to see how much money I can make.

That is the collest part of all of this. You are now about 10 levels above the mobs in all the pre-raid, pre-tbc instances. you can now just walk through them and farm the bosses all day long.
I want to go back to the list of items I wanted before I began raiding at level 60 and get them all. What would have taken months, I could probably do in a week. /hurrah!

Stigg,
First and foremost, man you had me laughing about that squirrel attempted kill =). Great story mate.
My lvl 64 hunter RL friend and I (my 64 mage at the time) tried to 2-man Scholo, UD, Live Strat. We did fairly well through all three instances, scholo being the easiest of all three. Only boss we didn't kill, or even attempt, was the last boss in each instance.
Considering that I was a pure fire mage, it took some manuevering and a decent amount of health pots to make it through some pulls. One pull that went bad was...in Live Strat, just after the gate that closes and you AoE the little group of 30 worms. We pulled the Fat UD pat, the ghoul pat, then pulled the main group (3 elites, 4 non-elite, 2 of which are casters). During that fight, the eye comes up, we didn't kill it in time, so we had two 58 elite Garg pats on us...during that surprise, we ran under the gate back towards the entrance...another eye popped...didn't even notice it, summoned another 2 gargolyes...
At this time my hunter friend FD's and says to run the hell out, but this is Live Strat, there is no running lol. Long story short, we actually ended up just barely killing every mob. Was an insane battle of survival.
But yah, as for the OP question, I've never personally tried to go back and solo an instance yet. But have 2-manned several.

I solo'd my way to Jandice and got her to 33%, but couldn't continue because I was out of shards and all the mobs there are grey!! Man, I was so pissed.

Edit: I'd like to go back and try to farm most of strat live for righteous orbs. Also, I would be thrilled if I could solo lbrs to try to get more pieces to the ubrs key!!

As my wife figured out, you actually can not solo UBRS (or Duo)... you can't start the emberseer event without more.
She also found out that 2 hunters still can't duo the first 2 molten giants in MC =]

We did an 8 man ZG cleared the bat and snake bosses, wiped on the spider got 3 more people, 11 manned the spider boss and the blood lord. Then people started having to log. :wink2: I don't know how far we could have gone but I do know some alliance on lightinghoof have come close to downing Hakkar on ultimate (no other bosses down).
During this weekend I went back to Un'Goro to collect some crystals for my head enchant (Libram of Voracity). On my way back from the Eastern Pylon I ran into a Devilsaur...
First I reacted with an "ooops, that was close...". But then I realized that, "hey, I am lvl 70, that thing can't possibly hurt me anymore."
I am a combat sword Rogue, that just recently turned lvl 70. I am reasonably well equipped at this point (mostly bought stuff at AH, some rep. rewards, Aldor exalted): 7007 HP, 22.6+ % to crit and 1383 AP (all my gear is enchanted).
I decided to go on a test fight run to get the feeling of the difference between lvl 60 and 70. The Devilsaur was only a 54 elite (maybe it was a Tyrant). I cheap-shotted it as my opener, and took it down very fast. But to my astonishment I did not lose a single HP ;-).
Next fight was Blazerunner (lvl 56 elite) - the fire elemental boss on top of the mountain in the middle of Un'Goro. I once took him down as a lvl 60 together with a very experienced Mage. We drank health potions and consumed bandages during that fight that seemed to last forever. We were both very close to dying many times during the fight, but finally we got him down. What kind of trouble would he give me now - at lvl 70? I jumped at him, and he started losing health very fast. But quite early he sent me out for a run. Two times he did that during the fight, but his health dropped so fast that he was never a threat. I lost about 30 % of my total HP (give or take).
King Mosh (lvl 60 elite boss)! A well balanced group of 4 lvl 60 could take him down. I am no expert on him, but I read that he has 61,000 hit points, and does 750 dmg hits. I did not buff myself before the fight. I had slice and dice up and running + AR + Evasion from the beginning. I was able to take away about 25% of his life before my cooldowns ran out of effect. Then I started losing health very fast. At 50% health (my own) I gave up and vanished. And at this point I had probably only taken another 5% life from him. So King Mosh was completely out of reach for me (though I could have buffed myself, taken a healing potion, blinded and applied FA. But I would still not have made it).
I once tried grinding the elite demons south in Winterspring in Darkwhisper Gorge as a lvl 60 together with my lvl 60 priest (my wife). We had a very hard time there. We got them down easy enough when we got them one by one, but if we got two, we died 50 % of the time. But taking only one down, took us some time. They have a lot of hit points and they hit very hard. At one point I tried to take one down solo, but gave up when the demon had 20% life left. Now, at lvl 70, I figured I should be able to take down two at a time (blade flurry). I cheap shotted one, hit sprint, and rushed to the other one to get aggro. When I had both of them together I hit slice and dice and blade flurry + AR + Evasion and my +200 AP trinket. For some reason I was not able to hit them both in the beginning because they shifted positions somewat. So, the first seconds I was not able to do the damage I had the potensial to. When I had about 20% life left both of the demons were still alive. At that point I popped a Super healing potion. The second after that the first demon died, and the last one had around 20 % life left. No additional tricks were needed, I hacked him down and was not really close of dying.
I would like to try taking down Araj the summoner solo. It will be exciting to see if he dies before the overwhelming mass of adds consume me...
Until next time...;-)
