We regularly get requests to recruit members to participate in research for university courses or general surveys and rather than have rule forbidding them we feel a happy compromise would be to create a thread in which to post your requests. This way they don't overrun the forums but members interested in taking part know where to find the latest opportunities to get involved.

This thread is for surveys and research relevant to MMOs/RPGs or gaming in general. Do not post if you are wishing to sell something to participants. I check all surveys for any funny business :english:

Thanks
Elly

EDIT - I will recreate this thread when it gets too long so it never goes past one page of posts, so your post will always be on the first page.

Well I have created a World of Warcraft Survey, its a bunch of questions I came up with a wile back to try to get to know how other WoW players are. If you want to take it go to this link: WoW Survey (http://wow.webluke.net/survey/index.php?sid=1) The data that comes from it well be posted at some point to see what is. All parts of this is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 2.5 License.

If you would please take the survey it would help out.

PS: Thx Elly for making a solution to Surveys :)

Hello.

My name is Jordan Cohen and I am an undergraduate student in my final year at York University, Toronto, Canada. I am conducting a thesis study in order to complete my undergraduate degree in psychology. As an avid MMORPG player, I decided to conduct my study on MMORPG players and their personality.

Please lend a gamer a hand and take 5-10 minutes to complete my survey. It is composed of 12 MMORPG related questions and 60 (very quick multiple chioce) personality questions. All responses will be help in strict confidence according to the rules of my school.

All respondents have the option of providing an email address. If you provide valid contact information, I will send you a copy of the paper upon completion.

Hello everyone,

I've been a player on MMO's for ages now in a number of games so I figured I might pose a question to my fellow MMORPG gamers on worldofwar.net:

Basically I'm doing research for my university dissertation on group influence regarding the decision to engage in Real Money Trade for games like Warcraft, SW: Galaxies, Second Life etc and I therefore need some people to answer a word document based interview so I can construct an analysis of the general opinions of how group influence impacts the decision - if that makes sense

There are only 7 questions and the whole thing shouldn't take more than 20 minutes I would think, it's all completely confidential and anonymous no details would ever be passed onto anyone else (which is why I ask participants not to put their names on the document) - i wouldn't cheat my fellow gamers like that! Responders will never be revealed on this forum too to ensure complete anonymity.

If you'd like to take part please ping me and I will send you the word doc. I'd really really really appreciate it, it'd help me out so much.

Ideally you will have had experience in the Real Money Trade else the questions probably wont make any sense to you, however if you know people who could be interested please let me know as well.

As an incentive, i'll paypal any participant £1 for their time to fill it out. Not much I know, but I'm a student and I can't afford to pay loads.

I don't want to offend or anger anyone posting about such a touchy subject - the whole interview is designed to be completely impartial so players who are positive about the idea of RMT and those who are negative about it are invited to participate, although those who are negative about it I must admit may have to answer questions hypothetically.

Thanks for your time! I really appreciate it.

Please email me if you are interested: mart _ blade @ hotmail . com

I study journalism at Umeå University and right now we’re working with radio broadcasting. Among other things we have an assignment to do a short radio segment, and since I play WoW and am kinda obsessed with playing WoW, I though I’d do my segment about, you guessed it, WoW.

Now I’m looking for players in Umeå who would be willing to talk to me about their gaming and WoW in general. It doesn’t matter if you’re a veteran or if you just started playing, I’m interested in what everyone has to say. Please note, however, that the segment has to be finished on Wednesday next week (March 7th) so if anyone’s interested I want you to contact me as soon as possible.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask them here, or mail me, whichever you prefer.

*reposted here* - My apologies on overlooking this thread initially.

Hello everyone,

Below is a link to a survey I am currently using to collect information on online gaming behavior to be used in my Honors Thesis. The survey is fairly brief (3 pages), does not collect any personal data and is composed of general questions intended to help gather general demographic/perspective data to be used in my research. The more complete you fill out the survey (especially the short answer section) the better.

About me and the project: I am currently a Senior at Arizona State University. The thesis is part of my capstone project for the Barrett Honors College and will be investigating online communication behavior. If you are interested in learning more, please feel free to follow up with me in a private message.

Thank you for your time and energy!

Sorry about placing the last post in the wrong spot--I honestly had no idea that there was a thread dedicated to surveys and research. Thank you for the help!

Here's a repeat of the original survey:

Alright, so I'm working on a research project for an online course I am taking; and part of the project is having people who play WoW fill out a little survey. The problem is, almost nobody wants to help me out. Are spammers/scammers really that bad in this game?

I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this thread, but can anyone help me out? How can I validate who I really am? And, is there anyone willing to help me with this survey? Thanks!

P.S. In response to someone who made a reply to the previous post dealing with this survey, questions 17 and 18 are economic purposes and evaluating the "financial goals" of players. And the responses to questions 16--you're right, that last option wasn't professional, but I was trying to figure out a way to make it more appealing. You made some good points, and I intend to use them if I do something like this again. Thank you for post!

I know this has been done before, but I am doing a school research project on World of Warcraft. I am trying to look at how social interaction within the game world between players differs and is similar to interaction within the world external to the game(i.e face to face interaction). I like to think what I am asking is at least somewhat original, and if it is not, more reptitions of studies can lead to more precise, or help to verify previous work. It is a very short survey and should probably take about 5-10 minutes to complete. It is located at http://skyepollard.com/

Thanks!

Hello, I am a freelance journalist looking into MMORPGs in general – and the world of WoW in particular – and am keen to talk to gamers in Scotland. I'm interested in the highly enjoyable – some might say addictive – nature of the game. So are you hooked? Help me to understand the online experience and why it's so difficult to put the mouse down and log out. Perhaps it's taken a toll on your personal or work life? If you are happy to share your experiences on the record, please don't hesitate to contact me. Maybe you know someone who's 'hung up their keyboard' because they were spending too much time online. Please pass the message on.

Many thanks,

Adam

Hi everyone. I'm a senior in my high school. My school participated in the Senior Project program. For my project i chose to do it on social habits relating to video game addiction. More specifically MMORPG such as World of Warcraft. I was wondering if I could get feedback from players who play over 20 hours a week.

The question I have for all you of you is, "For what reason do you play this video game?"

Also if you have any comments, tips, or anything that you think will help, I'm very open to listening to your thoughts.

If you're interested in reading my paper, here's a link to it: http://www.hazz.org/wow/research%20project/Senior%20Project%20v3.doc

Once again, if you choose to help, thank you very much. : ) I posted this in the general forums, hopefully it wont get locked or anything o.O

Hello Forum, hope all is well.

My name is Adam and im currently producing a mini documentary which is focussing on the addictiveness of online RPG's (especially WOW) and the effort and enthusiasm that people put into these games.

A section of the documentary would focus on people who are objectionable to online gaming and prefer to role play for 'real'. I would be really interested to chat to anyone about their experiences of playing online gaming and someone who would love to express why they believe that World of Warcraft is the best RPG ever. This would be a great opportunity for someone to demonstrate their skills and commitment to online gaming and prove to doubters that online role playing is just as fun as re-enacting.

If anyone is based in the London, U.K, area then please don’t hesitate in posting a reply.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Well, I'm from London (sorta), but I don't think I'm a big enough WoW player to fit those requirements. IMO, WoW itself isn't addictive for me, computing in general is, and if I weren't playing WoW, I'd just be playing some other game like Enemy Territory or others (I have a pretty extensive collection of games). I don't play WoW as a "role playing game" as such, for me it's just another game.

That's the minimum required, and if I get that, I'm good...so hopefully you all can help me out.

Hi there,

I'm a researcher at University College London looking for gamers to fill in an online questionnaire as part of my research in to their experience when gaming. We are interested in how your immersive gaming experience is produced and have deigned a short questionnaire to measure certain aspects of this. It will take less than 5 minutes and by doing it you would be improving our understanding of what makes gaming such an intense experience.

The only criteria for participation are that you have played a computer game (console or PC) in the last week and that you are over 18.

If you are interested in completing it then please go to:
http://www.homepages.ucl.ac.uk/~ucjtaep/introduction.html

Hi fellow World of Warcraft players.
In this topic i have a request. For my masterstduy at the Utrecht University (The Netherlands) im observing World of Warcraft on severel points.

I have a request for my latest paper. I'm looking for people who have used payed leveling services (powerleveling) or have bought a character on the internet. I would like to ask some questions to those people about their experiences with these kind of characters. This interest is pure scientific, it is not my intention to exploit the leveling business, or act against the Terms of Use in WoW.

This way I hope to get a more clear view of the levelindustry in the game and determine if it really harms World of Warcraft and your playing pleasure.

For this I want to do some interviews with those people..offcourse this will happen strictly anonymous (IRC, or ingame chat) so you wont be harmed in your privacy.

Have you ever used payed leveling services or do you know people who did? please mail to wowinterview@gmail.com. The interview will not take long and no names will be mentioned in any version of the paper.

I thank you all for your coorporation and i hope you know some people who can help me!
