Yea, being faced with downloading TBC it makes me wonder what I might be missing. Me being a bit of a lore freak, and a music freak and what not, I wouldn't mind laying my hands on whatever goodies might be in the box.

Well, the Collector's Edition is absolutely wonderful in that aspect: DVD- and CD-ROM version of the game, the manual, a beginner's set of WoW trading cards, the soundtrack on CD, the ability to get a unique mini-pet (if you live in Europe, two because they stuffed up), a making of DVD, a mousepad with the map of Outland, and last but not least, a big hardcover artbook. Not to mention it comes in a beautiful box.

Good luck getting your hands on one, though. Normal version of the game is CD-ROM and the manual.

In related news, I see from the Blizzard store that you can buy some of the pieces that went into the original CE. Like the Art Book and so on, which is a nice thing to do after so many years.

Out of what you get with the actual box it's probably only the Art Book that's exceptional - simply because it's hardcover, thick and has the feel of a nice coffee table book.

I always wondered why the regular game wasn't shipped on dvd. I mean, does anyone with a computer on par with wow standards not have a dvd-rom? And wouldn't that be cheaper for Blizzard than 4 or 5 CD's?

The standard edition is nicely packaged but lacking in content. Apart from a small catalogue of WoW merchandise you get a very skimpy manual. Hardly a manual at all really.

What he said!

A lot of PC titles ship on DVD now by default. Certainly the other two PC games that aren't WoW that I play in any amount (Oblivion and Quake 4) did. A lot less hassle, and a much quicker install.

I guess WoW is slightly more "lowend PC" friendly, but PCs have shipped with DVD drives as standard for ages now. Even my old PII/450 shipped with one, a machine way too old to run WoW at all well. Given that an internal IDE DVD writer costs about 30UKP these days, it's not exactly high-end kit.

Right-o! I was wondering mostly about the manual, and if it shipped with a nice music CD. Rather disappointing amount of goodies, it seems. Blizz haven't cramped out a good manual since Starcraft, have they?

Thanks for the info, nothing stopping me from downloading now. I didn't expect
the expansion to cover 4 CD's of new content though:shocked:

4cd's and then a rather large download
