Im a level 34 (just) dwarf hunter. I have been in Southshore for a while and pretty much done all the quests there (except maybe one or two that are group ones). Although killing lvl 30-36 Orcs and Yeti's is profittable for me I want something a bit harder (but not impossible).
Q1) Is there another area to go to next in progressing through the game? Just a bit NW of Southshore I think is Horde territory so I cant go there - if Im right.
Q2) What is that big "force field" type dome thing by the ruined village with the elementalists working there? Should I be able to go in there at some point?
Q3) If I go a bit further NW theres a big wall and a gate that I cant get through alond with some refugees camped there. Is this the Horde / Alliance border?
Q4) I saw a player Orc on a mount near that wall but his name was blue and not red. Why is this? He didnt see me as I was hiding (lol) but if he had could / would he have attacked me?
Q5) Again near the wall area I came to a town. I got surprised by an NPC guard who when I first saw him I could have sworn he was lvl 33 but as I attacked him his lvl went up to over 40. Was this my imagination or not?

1) Try Arathi Highlands. Alliance outpost = Refuge Point. Area is 30-40. Lots of mobs for a hunter to work on. Another good place is Desolace, Nijel's Point in the north is the Alliance Flight Point. Lots of quests there too. In SW Cathedral Basement is a monk with a quest to go there. That is the start of the Alliance quest series that leads to Scarlet Monastery.
2) That is Dalaran. http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/story/chapter2.html
read The Guardians of Tirisfal
3) That's one of the Battle Grounds. Arathi Basin IIRC. You need to be lvl 50
4) Don't know sorry.
5) Probably your imagination. Was this a Dwarf or a Human?

More likely Alterac Valley (51+). Arathi Basin is in Arathi Highlands. ;)
4. Could be an ally player using an Orb of Deception, perhaps?
5. Sounds highly unlikely. Never heard of changing levels before. And a town near there? All I know of are Tarren Mill (undeads), Ruins of Alterac (ogres) and the farms (ally NPCs).
If it's in the last area then it was a player and not an NPC. They are all friendly to allies.

Desolace sounds good for a change of scenery. I've found it and Nijels Point on the map in the Cartography section, but cant seem to see Cathedral Basement. Is it on that continent?
I assume the best way to get to Desolace is to go to Auberdine? I havent really been on that continent much so dont have any flight paths.

Go to Auberdine, then south to Astranaar in Ashenvale. South of Astranaar is a tunnel to Stonetalon Mountains. Go there and south through the Scorched vale and you'll be in Desolace. Then you just follow the mountains eastwards and you'll find Nijel's Point.
EDIT: Cathedral's basement is in... Well, the basement of the cathedral in Stormwind.

Stormwind (SW) Cathedral.
One of the catacombs (basements) has a monk with the quest. I THINK it's on the right side as you enter, the furthest one from you. I could be wrong.
Use track humans if you have it.
The path is called Talon Deep path, and it's next to a lake in the South of Auberdine.

Cool - thanks for the directions :)
The Cathedral has a basement???? lol I never knew that. Ive done a couple of quests for the "bro's" but havent been back there for a while. The only instance I knew there was the dungeons not too far from Stormwinds bank.
EDIT: Dumb nut of the day award to me. I thought SW refered to South West & forgot it could have meant Stormwind!

It's not an instance, just a basement area. Doors are in the corners.
You are looking for Brother Anton, Scarlet Crusade Emissary.

This doesn't sound like a Battleground. Refugees camped out witha big gate? In and around Southshore there are several walls/gates. Are you sure it's not in Silverpine Forest, called the Greymane wall? Or is it the Thandol Wall (I think that's what it's called). It seperates Arathi Highlands (30-40) and Hillsbrad (20-30).
Edit: From Southshore, just to the west is Silverpine Forest. That's Horde Territory on PvP servers. There are no game mechanics barring you from entering Horde Territory. The onlything that going into Horde Territory means is that you (Alliance) will be Flagged for PvP, and Horde characters will not. There is nothing preventing you (aside from yourself) from entering Horde Territory.
Another question, what type of server do you play on? In Question four you talk about a mouted orc that was blue. If you play on a PvP server, his name would have been Green if he was friendly (IE: Using an Orb of Deception). If you play on a PvE server, then it could have been an Orc that didn't have PvP flagged. Not everyone (in fact very few do) runs around with their PvP flagged on PvE servers. If you play on a PvP server, then his name would have been Red if it was an Orc.
My suspicion about the wall with the Refugees outside of it is the Graymane wall in southernmost part of Silverpine Forest. The Graymane wall seperates the Nation of Gilneas from the rest of Lorderan. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Blizzard unintentially forgot to add this area (Gilneas) in either a patch or the X-Pack.
A brief histroy about Gilneas, it was another Human nation that joined the Alliance in the second war but left before the third war along with Quel'Thalas and the High Elves.

Yup thats the one - Silverpine Forest area. I dont know its name, but I know its not the one nearest to Southshore town where the Arathi Highlands is.

Good deducions Watson! Im sure youre right it was the Graymane Wall then. Does that brief history mean that it isnt Horde territory?
I play on a PvE server, but if the Orc changed to PvP then would I automatically be changed to PvP here? Im all for rivalry, but I just want to explore everywhere possible but if it means getting mullered every 10 seconds then Im happy to give the area a miss lol.

If you are on PVE server you have to flag to be attacked. /pvp.
if they are blue they arent flagged , if yellow you arent flagged but they are. red means youre ready to rumble.

Stranglethor Vale (south of Dukwood via road) might be a decent place too. A lot of mid 30s to lower 40s

You play on a PvE server, so Horde/Contested/Alliance territory doesn't mean anything. The only "territory" places on PvE servers are the Capital Cities (Stormwind, Ironforge, Darnassus, The Exodar, Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff, The Undercity, Silvermoon), and if you enter an enemy city (for you, Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff, The Undercity, Silvermoon) you will automatically be flagged PvP. No questions asked. If the Orc decided to /pvp then you would only be in danger if you /pvp.
As for what Gilneas would be, I would wager that it would be filed as 'Contested', as the only Faction specific territories are the 1-10 and 10-20 zones.
On a PvE server you can explore Durotar without fear of getting jumped by players (only guards). Just don't /pvp and you'll be fine.

Stranglethorn Vale has a ton of quests. There are are few quests near the entrance of Duskwood; one at the camp near the entrance and another just southwest along the first river you come to. The rest of the quests are from Booty Bay, the very southern tip of STV. It's quite a walk. Also, did I mention STV is gankville galore? Otherwise, excellent place to level until you hit 40.
Desolace is also a good grinding area. Not as many quests, but also a lot less horde.
Once you get into the high 30s, Badlands has some good quests. Scarlet Monastery is also awesome - good xp and great gear. I've run it multiple times when I get characters that level. The most fun instance under lvl 50 IMO.

Sorry to resurect this, but a strange thing happened relating to this thread:
I have made my way down to the Thousand Needle area and done the race course quests. I then went to the lifts that take you up to the (forget the name of the place) barren like area between Thou Needles and Ratchet.
At the top of the lifts I found a safe spot so I could go look at the cartography page. When I tabbed back into the game I just saw myself getting killed by an Elf player, who then went to sit on the ground and take a drink by my corpse.
Im on a PvE server (Dragonflight) and I was definitely set to PvE (i.e I NEVER change myself to PvP). Also he was definitely a player and not A.I.
My only thought is that when you enter certain areas are you automatically changed to PvP?

At the top of the lifts are two tauren guards, do you think they may have attacked you and flagged your pvp thereby allowing the blood elf to kill you?
If not then another possibility is that you may have been attacked by a patrolling npc that was pvp and the blood elf just happened to be there at the right time to get you.

Well I did kill the 2 guards after going up the lift - they were in the way y'know?
If I did that then doing so would change me to PvP? Ahh didnt know that!
Other than that, I know for sure I was waaaay out of the way from any patrolling AI, and didnt see any near me - except for the lift guards who dont move.
