I'm pretty picky about certain things and this is one of them. I need your help in finding me a beast of a pc desk for my home. Here's a little info of what I'm working with.

I have (2) 19" CRT's ... I know, get with the program... And my tower weighs about 50lbs. I'd like to have a desk that can withstand the weight of those 3 items and not lose any depth with the desk.

Price range >$400

:D

Thanks!!!

Are you looking for a DIY solution, or just something that you can go to Office Depot and buy?

Who uses a desk anymore? :P

In all honesty, I prefer to use a solid wood door mounted on cinderblocks.

You get - 21 square feet of space, the cinderblocks double as compartments for holding cds(the holes inthe cinderblocks) and you can spread everything out.

All for about $10. I've made myself one for every desk I have had, it is amazing! Just make sure the door is SOLID wood. And its versatile. If you want to put it in the corner, get rid of one "leg" of cinderblocks, cut the table into a right triangle, (or whatever angle your corner is) and your all set.

QFT, I was gonna recommend the same thing.

Wow... In the world of instant gratification, I didn't even think of DIY. Perhaps that's the better route, being as picky as I am.

Thanks!

Oh, what material should I have the top be? I don't want to just stain/finish the top. The mouse would eat it raw. All of my mice have eaten the tops of desks when they're made of the typical desk material.

I use an old LCD screen from my Sony Laptop as a mouse mat. That saves my desk quite a bit of wear and looks geeky and cool at the same time

What is DIY?
EDIT: nm, I googled it!

If your talking about the door idea - go to Lowe's or the equivalent, and look for a polished door. I use my desk as my work area as well, so I use pens all the time. The wood grain really screws up pen writing.

The other option is getting a large piece of glass to cover the door. Only problem there lies with your mouse...if its a laser, it might be better NOT to go with the glass.

QFT

I need to learn your meaning of that word. Everytime you do that to me, I'm like, "What did I do?!?!!?!?"

Although its not as, erm, ghetto-rigged, here is a good example.

I'd just go with whatever finish the door has on it. If that wears out on ya, sand it smooth and don't worry so much about what it looks like.

I need to learn your meaning of that word.

I use it exclusively for "quoted for truth". I've heard it can be used for "quit freakin' trying/talking", but rather than confuse people with another meaning for QFT, I'd use STFU in such an instance.

Haha I know, but prior to you using it, I have always known it as quit freaking talking. So the runthrough of me emotions are:

 :ponder:

Back to the door - what kind of mouse are you using? What other plans do you have for the desk?
If nothing else, you can go to staples and get an item like:

Basically, just a huge plastic sheet that works for mouses and writing to lay infront of your chair!

Access Denied by SurfControl

I've been using a Logitech MX518 for a long time now and love it. Time to replace it though. I don't know if the glass will have any effect on the mouse since the wood would :) be right beneath it. I don't know for sure. I also don't plan on doing to much stuff on it besides gaming/surfing etc. The writing bit has be a little concerned since I write hard and with a pen.

kcma, I suppose the tower can stay onthe floor, but I'm a weirdo like that and love tohave my pc on my desk, shooting the hot air out the windah, and plus, the convience of not haiving to lean down whenever I want to use the CD/DVD burners. I know, lazy? No, just I know what I want and I don't feel it's to far fetched.

I think I'll go build myself one. Seems like the most viable option since I can modify it exactly to my needs. I'm still a little iffy about the plastic mat. I think I need to find another surface for the table. I'll go with 3/4" plywood for my top and probably rivet down a material similar to the chair mats in an office I guess.

Thanks for all of you help! More ideas are much appreciated!

Name 5 items on kcma's table:

I see,

stool softener
Burning Crusade
