View Full Version : Gem Vendors?

So being a 66 horde lock I should probably know this, but I don't.
Can I only get gems from jewelcrafters or drops? Are there any gem vendors hanging around? I got these real nice robes from the Underbog last boss with three sockets and if I socket it right they will definitely be better than my Shadowcast Tunic. A guildie gave me a blue socket gem that someone gave him that does +4 dmg and +4 stam, perfect for me, and I'd like two more that do the same thing if I can get them socketed right.
So are there any gem vendors, or am I stuck spamming the trade channel for a kind jewelcrafter to charge me up the bum for some gems?
Thanks. :)

There is a Gem vendor in Thrallmar that sell some minor gems. He is in the Inn. There`s also a repeatable quest in Thrallmar, the one where you mark the PvP towers for your faction. Doing that quest gives you some marks you can use to buy some better gems at the questgiver.

Right on, thanks. I have some of those marks, but I guess I'll need to farm that quest a few times for the good gems.

There's one on the Scryer Tier (a "Fence"), and so probably one on the Aldor Tier as well.

There are several vendors labeled fence. They sell white gems which are crap, but they're cheap crap (2g a pop). When I get a new socked item, I go to one (generally the scryer one MadVlad mentioned) and buy a couple of gems to get the scoket bonus. They're cheap, so when I get around to getting my jewel crafting buddy to making me better gems, it wasn't much of a loss when I replace them.
There is a vender in Stormspire (Sezin or something like that) who has a limited quantity of green gems. I believe they're the same gems that jewel crafters make. They are just purchasable. If you stand in the doorway of the princes building looking towards the outside, the dealer in the building to your right.
Uncut gems comes from chests, mining, or prospecting.

Edited for my own personal sanity:
Hmm ... the only gem vendor I know that services gems is [link deleted]. It is located on the net. Gemvendor covers all types of jewelry. Gemvendor is for the jewelry trade.
How wonderful!
Now all us WoW players can take our newfound uncut gems and go to this site and get them cut just the way we want them! I'm sure they'll even set the gems for us in our gear for a mere nominal fee as well. No more confusing right clicking for us!
/sigh
Does this person even realize that they're posting in a video game thread? How can one advertise their own site and yet spell it wrong? /reported for unwarranted advertising and general idiocity.
Hmm ... is paying with WoW gold for real life services against the ToS?

Well for alliance there's a Gem vendor in HH (all low level gems (white) +4 through like +6 of various attribs) and there's also someone that you can trade Marks from the repeatable quest (Tower PvP) in for better gems (blues i think). I bring this up because I would assume that you've got the same thing on the horde side.

I generally just buy my gems on the AH.

Yeah, I'm with AJ on this one... I just checked how much cut green gems sell for on the AH. On my server they go between 2-5g a pop.
Knowing that I just spent a month and countless hours and gold leveling a jewelcrafter to 300... take my word for it. Just buy them on the AH =]
Now, I'm quite disappointed in the rarity vs usefulness factor between common, uncommon, rare, and epic gems. A common gem is purchased for 2g and gives you 5spell damage. A uncommon gem is purchased off the AH for 5g and gives you 7spell damage. At this point, maybe 2 spell damage might be worthwhile if I was on azeroth next to the AH.
Now it gets lame fast:
A rare uncut gem has a 1% chance to be prospected from 5 fel iron ore, or 10% chance from 5 adamantite ore. They for for 50ish gold off the AH. What does it give you: 9 spell damage.
Now if you think 2spell damage is worth 40 more gold, it gets even worse.
You can spend thirty THOUSAND honor points and get an epic gem which gives you 12 spell damage.
When I was PvPing with my premade where we'd consistantly 5cap AB, I'd make 5k honor a night... but that was 4-5 hours of playing AB.
We're talking 30 hours of PvP for 3 more spell damage?
So to recap:
Go slightly scratch a mob outside of Shattrath and get 2g and buy a gem which gives you 5spell damage
Spend 30 hours PvP, 12 damage
The rarity matches the prices... just not the value IMHO.
