View Full Version : Tattoos, piercings, etc...how far do you go?

The other thread about tattoos brings this to mind, so I thought I'd start a thread about it.
For me, no tattoos or piercings. Never going to happen. However, it is likely that if I were a teenager I would opt for a few of those things. Probably a pierced ear...just maybe an eyebrow...never mind the nostril nonsense, people with rings in their noses look to me like they've got a booger problem...and no possible way I'd ever pierce a tongue or any other vital organ.
A few tattoos maybe if they had meaning and were relatively innocuous. I don't need a whole panorama on my back of Mt. Orodruin erupting whilst Gandalf flies to the rescue, nor do I need barbed wire crawling up my arms and legs, nor any women's names. Perhaps a stylish glyph or two in more personal areas, or a dark-blue/purple Betta Splendens. Yeah, a little fishy wouldn't be bad.
I would probably have colored hair too; why not?
Ok, then.

I'm too scared of tattoos, but I really want one on my shoulder blade. Just a small cross, done in red with a golden border.

Well, you see, to me that's tasteful rather than garish, so quite acceptable. I also...well, my wife has...anyway, a tiny little rose on the ankle is quite delightful, on a woman, in my opinion. Shoulders are nice too.
If you're going to post a picture of it, maybe use that other thread. It was not my intention to create a duplicate thread for posting tattoo pics.

For me, tattoos were something I can remember wanting as far back as I can remember. I'm not going for full sleeves, an entire back piece, or really anything else visible while I'm in pants and a short sleeved shirt.
The one on my calf and forearm have no literal meaning, but they do symbolise something personal to me and take me back to the time that I got them. I have plans to get "Love" and "Sacrifice" in kanji script on my feet, a black iron cross inlaid with green Celtic knotwork (I'm mostly German, with a bit of Irish in the mix) on my left calf, and a small backpiece of a skeletal wing coming out of one shoulder blade and an angelic/feathered wing coming out of the other.
After getting my first two, I got away from the flash art (the basic tattoos you'd find on the walls of a tattoo parlor) and started getting pieces that meant something to me, as opposed to picking something out to remind me of a certain place in time. With the tats on my back and wrists, I still remember who accompanied me, what I was doing for work, who I was dating, but they mean something to me personally, and they can also mean different things to different people.
I did have my lebret(sp? [center of bottom lip]) pierced for about 6 months, but the stud kept falling off, so I took it out. They just aren't permanent enough for me, and a lot of people just don't get the piercing thing. They had no problem with the tats, but they hated the piercing.

I like art,
I like tattooing my self with a pen so i can scrub it off in the shower, however, I would never make it permanent. Not really ok with the whole piercing thing either.
I never really like the tattoos on women, though to be honest i never really minded the lower back ones. Tattoos on womens legs i really think look terrible.
Just my opinion on what looks good. Wouldn't talk anyone down for for doing it though.

Just got both my ears peirced agian at 34. My wife plans on getting her nosed peirced and i have thought about my lip. A friend of ours just got her nether regions peirced and my wife has talked about it but Sheis too scared to. She wants me to get my nipples peirced but I am too scared to. As far as tattoos go if they wernt so darn expensive I would get portraits of my kids done. One on each shoulder I think but man they are spendy!

This was a lame "Jackass" style stunt performed by a very lazy gamer. Tatting oneself to get a benchmark in a game...*blech* I can't imagine having that little respect for myself.

That is seriously juvenile. But then, just a quick browse through there explains a lot. I'm thinking ten years from now when the game and that (despicable) forum is in his past and he's having to explain to his girlfriend / wife why he has that tattooed on his butt he'll be experiencing the pangs of regret.

I'm hoping, for his sake, that laser tattoo removal technology has progressed immensely and become much less painful by the time he realizes that this was all done for no real life gain.

I got one tat a while back. I am a member of a living Scottish Clan and got my clan symbol done. Only reason I got one. There will be no others. Many of us have it (left upper arm) and display it proudly at the Highland Games once a year.
Stigg doc is a good idea. I choose one that was highly recommended. If you go down that road ensure they use new needles and sterilize any recurring equipment. You won't be able to donate blood for a year (if you do donate) and a Hep C test in one year is also recommended.
If you go to someone licensed your Hep C chance are almost non-existant.
Removing a tat isn't what it used to be. New technology can remove them after a couple of visits.

i dont have any tats or peircings right now. id really like to get the top of one of my ears peirced, in the cartalidge, i think that looks really sweet. i would LOVE to get a tat of something, but i just dont really know what. it would have to be something very important, and with alot of meaning, not just some dragon or something

I've got my ears pierced, and I like it. Most people I know as well, so I'm happy with it. :)

Got a piercing in the upper part of my ears (as edandor said, the cartalidge, although I didn't know it was called that in English) and I also got a lip ring in the middle. Don't know how long these will last, though. I have the ear pierced since high school, and I have had the lip ring for a few years now as well, but fact remains that a lot of people take you less seriously somehow because of those piercings. I've been thinking a few times of removing them altogether, might also be because I'm growing older now.
I got a small celtic knot tattood on my left calf, done in black with a tiny red border. That one isn't going anywhere, even if it was easy to remove. It's a so-called shield knot, a symbol of protection - basically it's supposed to be my own little guardian angel.
I don't like large tattoos, or tattoos in places that are not easy to hide. Bit of a contradiction with my piercings, especially the one in the labia, but hey.

especially the one in the labia,
..... Screenshots, or it didn't happen! ;)
Anyway, I'm firmly opposed (personally) to heterosexual, sexually active females having important parts pierced-- my ex had her hood done, and I can't tell you how many days I woke up with what appeared to be a red racing stripe above my penis...

I have the top of my left ear pierced with three very small gold rings, because my right ear is pointed (not subtly pointy, either -- very pointy), and a friend suggested to me a few years ago that piercing the top of the left ear might give it the illusion of pointiness as well.
Tattoos, I presently have none, but I have two designs prepared: one for my upper arm which is of religious significance to me, and a small one for my lower back. Money's my main limiting factor in getting those done at the moment; I felt guilty for spending four euros on a book the other day, so it's not the best time to be splurging on body art. They're the only ones I ever expect to have done though.
While I think tattoos are not something to take lightly, they don't have the permanence that they used to. The day I start to feel it no longer belongs is the day I'll have it lasered. That said, I find large or numerous tattoos relatively unattractive, and most piercings other than the ears -- but to each their own. Ain't for me to tell someone else how to decorate their body.

It appears I made a very embarassing mistake. I actually mean the normal lips, you know, the ones in the face. Labia does mean lips, but I forgot that it's also a reference to... other lips. Anyway. I am male, and my piercing is in my bottom lip (in my face!).

Honestly, the funniest confusion I believe I have ever heard.
Ju - the Link one is actually quite good....the design is amazing and it almost covers up the gaming nerd aspect of it. The FF one is dumb...
