My dad studied to be a mechanical engineer, got into the quarrying/mining industry and is now managing a group here in New Zealand. My mom studied to be a teacher, did that for a few years but gave up to take care of the kids, manage the household and do all those sorts of things.

My dad was a policeman, my mum a teacher. Talk about the classic middle class upbringing...
Also explains my terror of authority... lol
My dad's retired three times, once as a copper, once as the training director for a chain for gyms and once as a Co-ordinator for the witness service (does counselling for witnesses who have to give evidence in court) and is now treasurer of the local parkinsons disease charity.
My mum is luxuriating in retirement - and now a professional knitter of clothes for my nephew who's almost a year old...

Mom was president of operations of some big wig loan company in NY for years and got laid off. Now she is charge of adult admissions and online admissions for a college.
Dad is a tool calibrator, (lol, sounds dirty). He makes sure tools are accurate to the most miniscule of measurements or something. He's an old-school draftsman and never got into CAD.

Mum & Dad were both in WWII, but both dead now.
Dad used to be a Captain in Ground Crew, then went on to work for Vandervell's (part of GKN) who made bearings as a Superintendent.
Mum used to work in M&S but mostly was a full time mum.

So sad.
Anyways. Mom has been a teacher since I was born. Teaches highschool geography. My dad was an editor for a small town newspaper they 'let him go' so he sat around a while and then was like: hell I'll try being a teacher. Me and my mom nearly choked (its about the last thing we could see him doing). He now teaches communication technology and drafting. I just got through 4 years at a highschool where both my parents were teachers (I could walk into a staff room or the back of the main office and no one would blink).
I still pretty much am a key to the school.
