Spells

I was curious, is there a way to detect who my spells are being cast on other than reading the event logs? The reason I am asking is because I am trying to make a counter and the logs don't always work it seems.

For example
I cast Renew , the combat log reads "You gain renew"

but if I cast it again, it wont give me that message because I'm not gaining it, I already have it. So I was just curious if there was a way to get that info. UNIT_SPELLCAST_SUCCEEDED wasn't much help for me
