View Full Version : ANY icon (quest reward, UI hotbar keys, etc) fade in and out periodically

Hi,

I've got an usual problem which seemed to occur after installing BC. Every now and then, whenever i open my quest log, scroll the auction house, open my talent window, open bags, etc., the majority of the icons fade in and out.

For example, if i opened my talent window and scrolled down, the transparency/opacity of my user interface icons starts to fade out. I'm only able to 'fix' the problem temporarily by trying to open my bags, my quest log, etc., so that the icons there show up and override the screwed up ones. It gets very annoying in the middle of a fight when i cast one spell, then want to cast another, only to have the majority of my hotbar key icons suddenly fade out and the only thing i can do is try to find what I can open to make the interface ones become darker again  . I can hover my mouse over any of the 'faded' icons and it gives the descriptions as to what they are, it's just the images are extremely faded almost to the point of being invisible.

Is there something that affects opacity of icons?

I'm using the standard Blizzard UI, but addons I've got installed are Atlas, Outfitter, basic CTMods (Buffs, party, mailmod, party frame), Auctioneer, Metamap.

Please help asap. I had backed up WoW and did a complete reinstall, and things seemed to work ok for a bit but then they began the fade routine. I'm considering buying a new computer (tho this one isn't old) but I'd prefer to find out wth the problem might be. Has anyone else had problems with any addons maybe affecting any icon opacity?

Thanks very much.

Could be some addons, but that's amazingly easy to tell. Simply disable all your addons, boot WoW, and observe. Voila. Come back if it isn't somone's half-assed attempt to improve the UI that's broke everything. It's rule number one when troubleshooting anything, try the product without assorting customisations or modifications, at default norm. Else it's pointless, needlessly adding possible causes and not ruling them out; it's like deliberately trying to fix the problem blindfolded.

Now it could be many things, I'm not going to run down the list however until we go through the process of elimination, else we would just be overlooking the most obvious and easiest to rectify cause of your complication.

First of all, thanks for responding.

I have done as you said and disabled all the addons (as i had done when the problem originally happend and forced me to reinstall WoW and BC), and the problem still exists. Should I back up the addons to a diff folder then delete them from the WoW directory, and do another reinstall of WoW of BC and run without addons?

I'm at a loss; it might even be something in my saved variables folders, but I'm no expert, so I didn't want to mess around with something I'm unsure of. Are there any other suggestions as to what the solution to the problem might be?

Thanks.

A buddy of mine had the same problem after the giant 2.0 patch. Turns out it was his video driver. He upgraded to the latest stable version and all was well.

Good luck to ya. It's frustrating!
