Having trouble taming

I feel really stupid. I am a level 11 Hunter Night Elf. I got the quest to use the taming rod. I actually by mistake managed to tame my first spider. Then I was asked to tame a sabar. I didn't really know what I was doing and I can't even get the taming rod to do anything. I click on the animal, then right click on the taming rod. Nothing. I do the opposite, click on the taming rod (in my bag) and then try selecting the animal. I still have 3 charges on it, and it's not even done something once. I'm starting to think something is wrong. No bars appear, nothing flows from me. Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?! :ponder:

I take it that there are no messages displayed. make sure that you are not trying to tame a creature that is highter than your level. I have a Tauren hunter and can not rember if I had a rod to use at first eihter.

If you still have the spider, you will not be able to ame anything else.
Right click on the spider's portrait & click "Abandon". Be prepared for a fight.

When he is gone you should be able to tame the Sabre. To do this Left click on the Sabre (to avoid auto shoot), then when in range click on the taming rod. You will see little hearts eminating from the sabre, indicating you are taming him.

As you are asked to tame 3 creatures you will have to Abandon each one before taming the next, each abandon results in a very angry mob who will attack you. You can always abandon it next to guards if you don't want a scrap.

Also, make sure you are trying to tame right cat. There are many different cats in there, but rod will only work on one kind, which is specified in the quest. I think the ones you need are south of that long lake, so search there.

If I remember back that far, you get a taming rod for the spider which has three charges. You click on your spider when in range, ie no red dot on your weapons, and right click on the rod and click on the spider then the hearts begin and a time bar times down until the spider comes to your side. Feed him now! Use him for ten mins, abandon and return the taming rod to the trainer who will ask you to go tame anothe animal. Do that the same and then another then he will give you a permanant rod which you can use to tame the animals of your choice if you are levelled enough.

ArdenWolfbane : You can't feed the MINIONS you get for the 3 stages of the taming quest. These are not pets although that act as though they are.

vortexhealer : Make sure you are taming the exact beast that it tells you to in the quest log.

1) Webwood Lurker - you did this one
2) Nightsaber Stalker. NOT a Mangy Nightsaber, Young Nightsaber or an Elder Nightsaber
3) Strigid Screecher. Not a Strigid Hunter or a Strigid Owl.

There are always beasts about with similar names to the one you need to tame for the quest - just double check you have the right one.

You are dead right, I said it was a while ago, and at my age the memory is not as good as it once was! You do need to feed your permanant pet straight off though...

Also you dont' actually need to keep it fo 10 mins - you can tame it then abandon it straight away.
