Has anyone see the Alchemist's Stone? You can buy it from the sha'tar when you are revered. You need to be an alchemist (375) to use it. It gives you +15 to all stats, and increases the effect of potions by 40% on the wearer. It's a pretty cool item, especially since alchemy doesn't really make any good items/trinkets.
Ok, so it's cool, but what about it's usefulness? As far as i know, it works on any "potion" which would of course, include *fel* potions. If anyone has seen fel potions, they know that they're not all that useful by themselves because they have a negative effect on the user, usually in the form of -stats. So how is it worth it then?
Well, since my main toon is a warrior, i'll use the fel regeneration potion as my example. The potion regens 3200 hp over time while at the same time reducing all of your stats by 15. Notice, the alchemist's stone is +15 to all stats... coincedence? I think not. Ok, so now apply the 40% increase to the 3200 regen, and you find yourself with 4480 hp gained over time, while cancelling out the negative effects at the expense of 1 trinket slot over the time of the debuff. For all you alchemists out there, i'd say that is WELL worth it! A fel potion without the debuff is quite useful, and by amplifying it's affect by 40% it seems like a no-brainer to me.
Ok, so now how do you get it? the easiest way is by rep farming for a few days. so hand in all your fel armaments (or whatever) until you hit friendly, and then run tempest keep dungeons until you hit revered. basically that's the only way to do it, so goodluck!
the required mats for this item are:
1x philosopher's stone
1x earthstorm diamond
1x skyfire diamond
2x Fel lotus
5x primal might
As an accomplished alchemist, you should already have the philosopher's stone as well as the 2x Fel Lotus from herbing (they have a low % drop off certain herbs). Primal mights are relatively easy to obtain, especially if you're willing to farm the motes for a few days. at 70, it shouldn't be too difficult to obtain the primals. just make sure you transmute those as soon as you are able because of our transmute cool down, if you're a transmute specialist, you might get lucky and halve the amount of farming you have to do. You can get the earthstorm diamond recipe by getting honored w/ cenarion expedition (very easy to do). you can get the skyfire diamond recipe from thrallmar when you are honored - also easy to do. The mats with both are half farmable (motes), and the other half i personally will probably buy since they are relatively cheap and i don't have a mining/jewel crafting alt.
a good way to handle this is by farming all of the mats first for a few days, and then transmuting as you can. then when you have all/most of the mats, run tempest keep instances in your transmute down time. i would say that is the most efficient way to get the item if you aren't already revered and don't feel like spending the gold on the mats. on top of that, you will level up your alchemy by atleast 7 points (if you need any points) by transmuting the various mats. it's almost too easy!
altogether, this item is very attainable and i think it benefits alchemists more than is seen when first glancing at it. the +stats are nice (especially for classes that use all stats), but really they serve a greater purpose than just giving you a stat buff.
