Encore Again

I've been going through alot of pets lately because they keep running away. This is because I don't feed them I'm told so today I trained a plainstrider lvl 13. It said he ate fungus so gave him a forest mushroom cap, that made him happy...for 5 minutes. Are forest mushroom caps not good enough for a lvl 13 pet? What am I supossed to do to stop them from runnig away?
Also teh glitch I'm facing here is I have a night elf and I'm doing the quest to kill Lady Sathah outside darnassus. She's the giant lvl 12 spider,I saw her before but didn't have teh quest yet. Now that I have the quest I went to the same spot exactly and she wasn't there. I searched the whole area but she wasn't there and there was no corpse. i waited for 10 minutes and she didn't appear. I really need to do this quest because of the reward...Any Suggestions?

Sometimes she's up at the top of the hill at the back end of the area, and sometimes she's on the other side of the lake where the elementals are. I ran into the exact same problem before, she moves to 2 completely different places. Sorry my details are vague, it's been awhile since I was there.

When you feed your pet, check the combat log (right there next to the general chat log) to see what level of happiness your pet is getting from the food. You want them to get 35 as that will keep them happiest longer. Even with that, a new pet will take more frequent feedings untill you get the loyalty level up. They get the most happiness from food around their level (or higher) How that translate to fungus I don't know. I have a cat and she definetly doesn't get the higher number off meat looted from low level animals.

Check on thottbot to see what others have to say about location/respawn rates. Might help you find your target.
Good luck.

You have to feed your pet little and often - esp when they have been fighting a lot - and extra if they died.
You should see a little Bonio (http://www.bonio.co.uk/index.aspx) Icon for the time he gets the feed effect. Any combat will interrupt that.
A good guide to the level of food to feed your pet is to check the food level. Forest cap is lvl 1 food - 61 hp over 18 secs is not a lot of food.
Red speckled mushroom (requires lvl 5) 243 Hp over 21 secs would be a lot better or Spongy Morel (req lvl 15) 552 Hp over 24 secs.
They also eat cheese and fruit remember.

All pets start off hating your damn guts. After all, you did just tame/beat/whip/love it into submission.
You can't just feed it one item. Feed it a few, one at a time, to get them liking you to start. It might really like you for five to ten minutes, it might like you for an hour. If you want to max out, keep feeding it until the combat log stops giving you "gained happiness" messages while the feed effect is on. And as the other guy said, lots of combat makes it want food faster. Dying pisses 'em right off. Even telling them to go away for a bit has an effect (but less than roaming the Barrens for an hour).
In my very limited hunter experience, it's easier to hang on to a pet once you've had it a while. Just keep at it, and keep it fed.
The big spider you're looking for spawns right where you saw it, it just also can up and vanish (once right in frontof me, much to my chagrin) to reappear on the other side of that nearby river. If you don't see it in one spot, cross the river and look over there.

As a Hunter I use http://ui.worldofwar.net/ui.php?id=1315 this is an excellent feeder for your pet. Just bind it to an unused key (mine is V, easy reach with my thumb).
Whenever your pet hits Content or Unhappy (depends on the way you set it up, I use content) a message appears onscreen warning you that your pet is hungry. A simple press of the button you have bound will automatically feed your pet.
No more searching through bags & dragging food to feed him.
