View Full Version : The unavoidable Barrens

I've said it before. The Barrens is what it is because everyone on the horde side must quest there at some point.
I tried to avoid it this time. I made a Blood Elf Mage and got up to 19 in the Ghostlands. The final scourge fortress proved too tough for me at that level, so I moved on to Silverpine. There, I barely got enough quests to get to 20, and I ran out of doable quests in Tarren Mills at 21.
So here I am again. Back in the Barrens. I'll see what I can do in Stonetalon, but I won't be surprised if I'm back shortly, running Wailing Caverns yet again.

Terran Mill in Hillsbrad is a 20-30 area. It should last you pretty well, then you can hit Arathi Highlands followed by the Hinterlands and then the Plaguelands.

I picked up the high level quests in the southern barrens while doing stonetalon and ashenvale at the same time. Wasn't as bad as doing the entire barrens :p

In theory, that's true. In practice, Tarren Mill doesn't offer a lot of quests until you can handle the Battle of Hillsbrad line. The undead zones in general seems kind of sparse in quests if you're solo. I recall running into gaps in Silverpine with my undead priest because I couldn't do Pyrewood by myself, and couldn't get a group to do it either.
Barrens Chat is legendary, and I realized a while back it's because everyone ends up in the Barrens eventually, unlike the Alliance who have a range of zone choices in that level range.

Stonetalon
You can quest there from 15.

You can avoid the Barrens completely. I have. There's no reason you "have" to do anything there.
Quest in the Blood Elf newbie area. You can get to 20-22 in Ghostlands. Then go to Stonetalon for a bit, then Tarren Mill and 1K Needles.
I have a 24 hunter now who hasn't done any questing in Barrens, except for one of the huntery quests out of Tjo (killing a named winged serpent). Other than that, avoided it completely.

I quite like the Barrens. Once I've left General that is.

I actualy find barrens chat enjoyable. It makes the monotonus questing interesting! (Though, admitedly somtimes it gets out of hand.)
Aslong as you dont say anything, and just view it as funny, you can be rolling on the floor laughing!
