Recently I've been getting extremely irritated while playing WoW. I'm on a server where the population, even during peak hours, is very low, and the Horde outnumber the Alliance 3-4:1 (which sucks since I play Alliance.) But that didn't seem too bad...until recently.
Over the past few days, while looking for Mara groups, I've spent 3-5x more time waiting for groups than running Mara. I use the LFG tool, I spam my guild channel, I spam the trade and general, and it still take 2-4 hours to get a full group for Mara (I set the record last night at just under 4 hours; the group never made it to the entrance...)
So, I've decided to pay the fee and switch servers. But I need some information.
I need a server that has a fairly high population (just about at the point where I see join queues once-in-a-while, but not everyday), good Horde-Alliance balance, a decent battlegroup, and a good economy. And it has to be a PvP server (not RP-PvP.) Also, if it's possible, I'd like something in the Eastern time zone, or maybe Central.
Anyone know of any good servers?

You're going to struggle getting groups for any instances now <60. Not saying it can't be done but with me, for example, all my alts are just passing by 90% of lower level instances. I've done one WC run and one SM run on my way to 45 with my latest alt, I can level better/quicker by avoiding instances and nightmare PUGs.
Sad truth, but if you think getting a Mara group is hard wait till you try and get BRD, LBRS, Scholo etc groups going - they are going to be ghost towns when you can get much better gear simply by going to Outlands at 58 and doing some easy quests.
Best of luck on your search for a new server tho.

I have just rolled a couple of new characters on a new server.
To be honest, I am not that bothered about any of the instances I have already run to death, although I will probably go to the Scarlet Monastery Library with my priest to get the key and to see if the dagger or staff drops. He;s lvl 36 now and gets whispers every day.
Maraudon is a lvl 45-50 Instance which is only a few levels before you get to go to Outland. I have heard that the green world drops, the quest rewards and the 5 man instances there have loot better than MC (Tier 1 epic).
Whatever Moopy says must be true.

That site is not allowed to link to from these forums due to gold selling and leveling services ads.

Kalecgos is western time, but I play on that realm. I am on the eastern time and there is never a problem with finding groups or what-not, even from 5pm EST. But I don't know about the ally side of things...

Do you mind ? I think it's still up, if so a great site to check populations and if I were you look for a newer server with a higher pop, more chance of people running the lower instances then an old server.

I've played on Whisperwind since I started playing over a year ago. For a long time there were queues every night but a lot of people left when the free transfer to Zangermarsh came up and they increased the max number of players so the queues have virtually disappeared. Still it's one of the most populated servers in the game (probably because it's one of the first servers) and Alliance definitely outnumbers Horde.

If you're looking for pre-60 instances, it's probably also good to look for a relatively new server. Old servers with high pop are going to have a ton of folks 60+. New servers with even medium pop are going to have a significant number of folks doing pre-60 instances.

I'm on deathwing and up through ST I never had a problem finding a group usually 10 - 15 min before we had a run together. After that I could not for the life of me find a run for BRD UBRS or any of the other higher level instances. Everyone I just running as fast as they can to get to outlands. I'm sitting at 59 and I promised a friend I would wait for him before going through the portal. Plus deathwing is in the battlegroup with all these silly alliance people here on The Venture Co.

i guess you have a diff time zone. it might be you are playing in the middle of the day when in other players' country it's still midnight. it's just a guess though!

My server - Shawdowsong (PVE-older server) - seems to be a bit of an exception to the prior stated situations. I have been playing my 2 alts (lvl 38 & lvl 21) and have had no problems finding decent groups for quests and instances. I will say this however 4/5 or 5/5 of groups are all alts. It seems now that many of us have leveled someone close to or 70 and that many are doing alts increasing the population in the early / mid-ranges.
The comments about the <60 instances is right on though. I will only be doing 2 of them with my alts unless I am particularly targeting something. I have had friends that are pallys and locks begging us to come in from Outlands to get their epic mounts. I never turn down a guildy/friend.
I think WoW is a very well crafted and thought out game except when it comes to Outlands. Don't get me wrong the rain of gold and greens from the skies is fantastic and I think the lands are better visually. Blizzard effectively wiped out interest in the 55 to 60 existing instances Perhaps they could of bridged BC better into the existing game or rework those instances which were handicapped by allow players 58 lvl to go to Outlands. Food for thought.

They probably could have "keyed" Outlands by requiring people to run Scholo/UBRS/Strat, but that more than likely would have resulted in mass unhappiness.
I am happy with Boulderfist PvP server, the allience to horde (I play Ally) ratio seems to be good. I live on the west coast but the population seems to be on eastern time.

Forget I mentioned instances at all. I just want a higher population server.

Agreed no good solution. Not sure what the decision to allow 58's in or folks being ported in by mages early (like the requests I get 24/7 if I am in SW, Darn, or IF - why I pop in and out quick).
Blizzard is pretty good about tweaking WoW (maybe too much sometimes) I imagine it all works out. Took us for hours to get a group for DM and never could get one for Scholo on Sunday (pally's horse quest).

Hmm. After checking a certain site, it seems a general rule that PvP server have around a 10% less population than PvE.
