View Full Version : What do you do when flying?

You're flying from Stormwind to Menethil Harbor so you can hop a boat to Kalimdor. Or you're flying from Darnassus to Tanaris, possibly one of the longest flights in the game. Or you're traveling from Netherstorm to Shadowmoon Valley.

What do you do when you're flying?

I usually tab out, check a forum, or read an article somewhere. If it's early morning, like now, I'll make coffee and get some breakfast. If there's lots of people on in guild chat, I'll stay and chat.

So what do you do?

Sometimes I play spot the node (ore or herb), or see if I can click on a target as I fly overhead.

Once in a moment of madness I flew from Booty Bay to Light's Hope Chapel - I was really aiming for The Hinterlands.

That was a very long flight.

Of course I do alt-tab, and I talk in /g

One thing that has changed is that you change chat channels as you pass through areas. You used to be able to start a conversation in general or trade and continue until you landed. I quite liked that.

However, because you do change channels, you can make 'ninja comments' as you pass through an area, knowing that you will never see any response. I did that yesterday as I flew through The Barrens on my way from Org to Freewind. There was an animated conversation about guild recruitment in Barrens General. I gave them my tuppence as I passed by :D

Yeah I miss that feature. Used to be some weird, random conversations in STV that I'd read and chat about for the five minute flight to Storm, but alas, no more.

Make dinner, or flick the KVM to the other PC to browse newsgroups :-)

I try and avoid the really long flights, there's usually a better way- love atlas flight maps. However, I do take advantage of lengthy flights to make a cup of tea, have a stretch, maybe get some toast.

Sometimes it's useful to use the time to look up quests and pre-mark your maps (if you're in a hurry rather than exploring). /g is obviously there for such times too.

Aye. Although I do find it a bit silly that it's sometimes faster to get a boat to another continent and then get another boat back....

"A bit silly", ah, nice to see that the noble art of the understatement isn't dead :)

I do:

Laundry
Cook
Eat
bathroom
Read books
read forums
Look up info

I did an entire MC run once without looking at the screen once. I read quite a few chapters.

/target Huss (our Main tank)
/assist

Spam Frostbolt

/target Munk (our mage lead)
/follow

And when decursive worked, spam that button over and over again.

Normally I’ll just chat on MSN, but if I’m flying somewhere for a quest, I’ll most likely be checking on Thottbot for what rewards I get or if I’m stuck, look for a guide etc…
