I logged into the game, and as it was logging in, it said:
"Submitting non-personal system specs"
Then it did it's handshaking, success, and logged me in.
Has anyone experienced this? Should I change my password just to be safe?

I'm wondering if it's maybe an addon I just downloaded. Nothing bad or that would be considered against the rules, and everything was from this site (well, the UI portion of the site).
I know every time I've logged in since I bought the game there is one point during the whole "Connecting...handshaking...success!" phase where it says "Downloading", but it's really fast and you can barely make it out.
Well, I changed my password, logged in, and asked in guild, and two people have seen it as well, so I'm somewhat relieved.

...i wonder if that "non-personal system specs" include your pc's IP address. now wouldnt that be "personal"?
makes sense if they do that, since Blizzard's been doing a lot of banning lately, apparently trying to trace accounts that logged in from NC only to log in somewhere in asia the next day...

Submitting specs has been part of the handshake/login process since well before the expansion. It just normally goes by too fast - I don't actually think Blizz is looking for much, or maybe it's just a tag from their Warden stuff. Maybe they slowed it down for legal reasons.
IP Address is not specs. You login they have that. Period.

I saw the message once, just after the first 2.x patch, not seen it since. Think it only happens when server communication stalls in a very narrow window of time.

Yeah the next message will be...
Your system does not have the required specs to play WoW
There's gotta be a conspiracy in there somewhere ;-)

Don't know how many folks recall the debacles / debates in the late 90's early 00's when Microsoft did the same thing, promise, non-personal / non-id info only... even the initial authentication scheme for XP...
Blizz == Microsoft ???
(for the record, my issue is that they decide what is non-personal, not me)

...my thoughts exactly. they should state clearly what these "non-personal" information are.

think this could have something to do with the release of the armory? maybe they are getting your data everytime you log in for characters like weapons and armor and such. why it is called non-personal i have no idea....just a thought

It happens all the time, Blizz collects 'non-personal' information to 'improve' their services or some such. There is a blue sticky post on the official forums about it somewhere.

It happened to me a couple times and I got really worried… Thanks for posting the link. I think they should have put it on the main page like one of the posters suggested. Ah well, no harm done I guess!

I've had it occur a few times under the same circumstances.

Glad to know it's nothing strange then. As a non-gold seller/buyer or powerleveler, I'll never be logging in from here one day and Guam the next.
