View Full Version : For the Horde or For the Alliance?

I cant exactly decide on what faction I want to play on for WoW. I've played characters on both the Alliance and Horde to various levels, the highest being 34. There are things I like and don't like about each faction and I cant really decide which I prefer and want to play on. I dont want to have characters spread throughout both the Alliance and Horde, I'd rather dedicate myself to one. The main thing I like about the Alliance is their areas which I much prefer over the Hordes. For looks and races, I'm neutral for both. I dont really prefer one over another. On the Horde, I like what they stand for and represent more than the Alliance. They're strong and shamanistic and statistically more mature and experienced players prefer them. The warlock is my favorite class, but I also enjoy the shaman, mage, hunter and rogue. So what do you guys think I should play; Alliance or Horde? :ponder: I need lots of opinions so please give your input, all help is appreciated.

With the release of TBC (and now both factions getting all classes) there really is no difference for end-game content.
I preferred the horde. If I wanted to see "real" things, I could fly to germany and look at their old architecture. I prefer novel things, so looking at cities made on hills, run-down buildings, etc. was the one and only way for me.

Play where you've got more/better friends.
If the maturity is an angle, sure, go for the mature Horde (however, I submit for your dismay, The Barrens Chat...)

I couldn't tell ya. I have only ever played horde, and always will. Horde is just my preference.
So, ya what the guy above said, go with the one that you have more friends on....

Agreed, this is the number one reason I left Horde and joined Alliance...I couldn't stand them anymore

i started off with alliance and.. wow.. ha.
my server the ratio of alliance to horde is 1 : 2.2
alliance in my server is having a hard time playing w/o being disturbed.
the difference is vast. u will always see hordes not in pairs but in packs. killing any alliance in sight

Personally, I enjoy the horde characters much more.
Go with whatever you think looks coolest.

...finally, some people who stands with the alliance! lol... honestly, i thought this is never gonna happen. how come people like the horde so much? from what ive been hearing, the odds are now at 4:1 Horde over the Alliance... 4:1, jeez, they really are a horde.

*shrug* When the game first started, it was vastly different.
I play regularly Alliance now, but that's simply because that's where a lot of friends ended up. I still run across massively painful experiences on both sides of the fence (the tanking hunter, the openly stoned healer, ah, memories). When I first started out, I had less of that on the Horde side. I have less of it now on an RP server, but still enough. All mileages vary.

...hey, at least in RP servers they do it coz theyre supposed to. in other servers they do it out of spite. phooey. =P

Where did you get this figure from - is it an internet "fact"?
Some actual census figures can be found on the net, OK I am unsure how up-to-date and complete they are but at least they are researched figures. I can't link to the site because of PL ads but Google is your friend, honestly. The one I looked at showed a 1.3:1 ratio of alliance to horde server-wide, obviously some servers ratios are individually very different.
Personally, I am noticing a big downgrade in the skills and teamwork on the horde side, especially in WSG over what it was like 3-4 months ago. It used to be that WSG was approximately a 20:1 win ratio for horde and AB 40:1, from personal experience it now seems more like 6:1 win ratio for WSG and 20:1 in AB. This is my impression on my battlegroup in the 30-39 and 40-49 range.
The above PvP ratio's probably explain some of the horde increase, along with "pretty" blood elves (although they have an exceedingly sucky mount).
I started with horde characters, switched to a new server to do alliance for a change and ended up in a great guild. After doing BGs on the alliance side with so many numbnuts it wasn't true I created some horde toons specifically to BG/PvP with. BTW, my horde PvP toons were created over a year ago and my highest (lvl 49) probably gained about 30-40% of his levels from doing BGs
I use my alliance toons for PvE only apart from when I feel masochistic enough to do some BGs with them.

Conceptually I far prefer Horde. My next char will be Alliance but that's only because I'll be starting out in the wow.net guild which is Alliance... if it were not for that one point there would be no question at all which side I'd choose (For the Horde!!)

Makes me wonder how the alliance/horde ratio can be something like this when the forums are always full of "for the horde!" instead of the opposite.
Either the statistics are wrong(doubt it), or there indeed is a rather large average 'maturity' difference between the factions, evident through the bias of the comments.
I like to think the latter is true, hence I prefer the alliance.
And if we just dump the "maturity debate", I'll go with that the horde seems to have a lot more 'elitist idiots', as I like to call them.
Either way, I'd go for the alliance. The only bad thing about this side, as I see it, is the biased general opinion aganist you.

Horde this, alliance that.. cant people at least add some servernames to their view of the the different sides?
I really doubt that everything ( f.x. the maturety rating, whatever you measure it with), is absolutly the same, on every server.

I can only recount my personal experience here
i have 2 horde level 60 characters: much more mature then alliance, less jerks and more people that know what they are doing.
PUGS on the horde side (atleast they used to) were rather efficient, even though some were completely useless.
of course there were idiots and elitist bastards.
levelling a draenai shaman: im level 50 now and I have never ever seen such a complete bunch of retards as the alliance combined!
sure there are nice and friendly players, but those are rare.
on the alliance half of them can't speak regular english it seems, and when they do its usually to blame someone else.
they leave groups for nonsenical reasons as "i don't like the mage his loooks" and "we are going to wipe anyway, so why bother".
people calling you "noob" for the most stupid reasons, for example I was looking for a last member to the group, I had found a warrior and asked the group if they were ok with that, nobody said anything for 20 minutes, after these 20 minutes the group leader said "name?", i asked whos name he meant.
he said "the warrior", the warrior had long since joined another group and i said so.
the guy started screaming in caps "OMG U NOOB" and then kicked me from the group.
also most alliance players apparently get played by someone else, dince most of them don't know that the mobs chase you through the whole instance and that you need to feed your pet to stop it from running away, heck I even encountered a hunter at level 56 that didn't know how to tame a pet.
heh sorry to rant but I really prefer horde over alliance, if only the draenai were on the horde side instead of blood elfs
anyways, make of this what you want, its just my experiences, you might have a tottaly different one (which i hope for you :D )
EDIT: just saw post above me, my horde were on Dragonmaw and Ahn'quiraj, my draenai atm is on Dunemaul

I can only go on my personal experience as well.. My first char was a human palla - got to level 7 and quit it. Random nonsensical whispers, ninja invites (what were they inviting me to at lvl 7??) and goldshire general chat were the main reasons I quit.
I then levelled a shaman, warrior, priest to 60, a twink rogue to 39 in relative happiness. Pugged most of the instances pretty hassle free, had a few bad experiences but not many.
Then I thought that I'd like to check out alliance again as I have essentially only seen half of the game. So I rolled a NE rogue and managed to level it to lvl 11 before just quitting it for pretty much the same reasons as the pala.
Maybe I have been horde indoctrinated at this stage but I doubt I will roll alliance again..

The most compelling reason I can give for playing Horde is that I've yet to see anyone dancing naked on a mailbox. I'd take Barrens chat any day of the week over Club Ironforge.
I started out on Alliance because I had a group of friends there.
I have since started characters on the Horde side because another group of friends started playing there.
So far my exp has been better on the Horde side. I like the Horde zones and quests far better than I liked the Alliance ones and overall people there just seem to be more "team" oriented.
I've been putting more time into my Horde Alts than I have me Alli main.

Sometimes I like to think there is some major difference between the US/OC realms and the European realms where I play, because downright most of the stuff I get to read on the boards here seems completely unthinkable to be happening on the realms I play on. For example:

I can still count the times I've ever seen this happen on the fingers on my left hand, having played alliance for almost a year now. And the few times I have seen this, it hasn't bothered me nearly as much as it seems to bother everyone else.
Maybe the thread starter would like to tell us which continent he is playing on?
