I was reading about doing instances and they said you should use a (dis)enchanter. What is this? and how do you take a bind on pickup item and disenchant into small/large radiant shards?

I might add that I am like just good at killing things and all this technical stuff throws me for a loop. lol

A Enchanter has the ability to Disenchant green quality and above items.

The Enchanter just needs to use the ability on the item and he'll get a shard/dust from it.

Enchanting is a profession that you can pick up. It allows you to add different effects to items. A very profitable part of enchanting is disenchanting. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but you can take a magic item ([Bastard Sword of the Monkey] for example) and disenchant it into a combination of Shards, Dusts, and Essences, which can then be sold on the AH for more than the item itself would have sold for.

One of the professions your character can take is called Enchanting. This allows you to put permanent buffs onto various items. A particular skill within Enchanting is called Disenchant, which allows the Enchanter to take pretty much any green or better item and 'destroy' it, reducing it down into some mystical component that can be used in another enchant.

It's not a requirement for you to have one in your group when you go into an instance, but it is handy to have one. If you come across an item that no one can use, someone would normally end up with a useless item that they would end up selling. With an Enchanter, they can then take the item, Disenchant it, and then everyone rolls for the shard (most blue items will disenchant into a shard of the appropriate level type, hence disenchanting is also referred to as 'sharding', though on other items you can get dusts or essences as well). The resulting shard typically sells for a lot more on the auction house than the item will vendor for, or you may choose to keep the shard for use in some future enchant, as typically you need to gather the materials yourself for the Enchanter to use.

However, and Enchanter cannot disenchant someone else's soulbound items. The item has to be in the Enchanter's inventory, and you cannot trade a soulbound item to another player. But if you come across a useless BoP item in a dungeon run, everyone else can pass and have the Enchanter take it to disenchant. But even if you don't have an Enchanter, you could still sell the item to a vendor for decent money.

An item will only disenchant into one particular type of material, but you may get more than one of that material from a disenchant. Dusts normally come in amounts between 1 and 5, Essences to about 3, but you only get 1 Shard. You make money because there is no deposit fee on enchanting materials, so you can set your price and keep attempting to sell it, with no detrimental effects other than if you list it too high, you won't sell it all that quickly. But yes, for most every item, the disenchanted material will sell for more than the item can be vendored for. However, you could attempt to sell BoE items for more on the Auction House. This however does involve a deposit fee, so if the item doesn't sell, you lose the often hefty deposit fee.

Bonra, if you are running an instance and no one can use a blue item that drops off of a boss it is a good idea to DE it. Most of the time the shard will sell for more htan the item would to a vendor.

Large brilliants and large prismatics especially.

I'm not sure what level you are talking about, I didn't see it in your question.
