ok, i am thinking of changing my whole layout for my hotkeys and key bindings and have a few questions on how to do it, or if its even possible.

first question (may decide if i do any of the following at all): can you bind a key to use a macro without said macro being on any hotkey/hotbar?

ok, on to the potential setup. i am currently using the standard WASD controls, but am thinking about switching to using ESDF style controls. i will list each key and what i want it to do, and hopefully someone can tell me how to do it, or that im an idiot and it cant be done. :)

W: strafe left

E: move forward

R: strafe right

T: use taunt (macro, preferably NOT bound to a hotbar/hotkey)

S: turn left

D: move backwards

F: turn right

G: use Hammer of Wrath (preferably NOT bound to a hotbar/hotkey)

Q: bind/unbind hotbars

A: assist target (target target's target)

this would free up some space on my 1 through = bar and make my life much easier.

thanks!!

Well, this can be done with a neat trick, actually. Download Bartender 3, and enable a bar that you're not using. Move all your macros to that bar (and remember where each macro is), then hide the bar (but don't disable it). You can then go into the keybindings interface and bind a key to that Bartender bar, even though it's hidden, and the keybinding will work.

that sounds like a neat trick. however, im EXTREMELY suspicious of any mod after having my account hacked twice inside 2 months. is there any possible way to do it in the standard Blizz UI?

Not sure. But trust me, Bartender 3 downloaded from this site or WoWAce.com is safe.

i will definitely take this into consideration, but you'll forgive me if a semi-random alias from the internet doesnt invoke a terribly large sense of trust. :D

EDIT: not saying YOU are untrustworthy, just that the internet is full of "trust me" type of statements

Mods can't hack your account unless they include an EXE file. Mods only run once your character is loaded, there's no way they could get your password. Basically it sucks that you got hacked and it's reasonable that your suspcious but in reality it's not UI mods that cause it.

i know. but since the hacking i've become very leary of anything not put out by blizzard for the game. kinda ironic since the only thing they tend to release is nerfs. lol.

like i said, i do plan to look into this mod, but i dont expect to begin using lightly, or without a significant amount of scanning.

It seems to me that you want to change the default movement keybinds - and add others. Although you are sending mixed messages.

T: use taunt (macro, preferably NOT bound to a hotbar/hotkey)

You are saying you want T to taunt via a macro, but you don't want it bound? Well you can do one or the other but not both.

The best way to change move forward from the W key to the E key (etc.) is to go into the game keybinds, and rebind the actions.

Press Esc, choose keybinds. Then find the action you want to do and rebind it. It will give notice that you have unbound another action if that is the case.

With the default UI, there is no option to bind/unbind keys without going into the keybind menu AFAIK. pressing Q to toggle bind/unbind willprove problematic.

Q: bind/unbind hotbarsI don't get what you mean by this...?

trouble is im already using all of blizz's standard bars. :(

i have it currently set up that when i press "G" in game that it unlocks my icons and i can move them around, but when i press G again it will lock them and i cannot accidentally move them. this was done with the default blizz UI, although i dont remember how.

That's not bind/unbind; That's toggle button locking.

Look in the game keybind menu to rebind it it Q
