Flight instruments for flying forms. (Whether it be mounts or the 'here's something shiny so you won't notice the enormous kick in the nards you druids are getting' flight form) An altimeter and an artificial horizon would be a huge help...but I don't know if there's any way to detect height above ground. Mostly, on long flights, I want to hit autorun and point in a direction, and it's not always easy to tell whether I'm pointing level or down, so I end up bouncing on my beak in the dirt until someone kills me...
Secondly; a dot on the ground so I can see what's right under me. I like to rawrbomb, and often end up rawrsplatting because I misjudged the range...It's inconvienent to fly while looking straight down because I end up FLYING straight down...

As far as I know, you can only detect coords on the 2D plane of the ground. There's no way to detect height.

Bah, forget it.

Rats. Would make long flights easier...
Shame you can't follow someone on a windrider, too...

Sadly none of this is possible. I do wish there was a keybinding for "fly down" which worked as an opposite of jump, and a button that would fly me straight forward even if I'm looking down (just how jump flies you straight up regardless of camera).

The sit button would be great for this, since you can't use it while you're aloft anyway. I'd also like to see it used in such a fashion for swimming -- I see no reason why I should always have to guide with my mouse if I'd prefer to use the keyboard. As of yet, that isn't possible in swimming or flight since I can only gain height.
But I agree with the OP -- it would be awesome to have something to keep track of the horizon, and something to show what you're directly over. As a warrior I dragoon things, and often; but yeah... when the attack is misjudged... Ech. Nothing is more embarrassing than having to ask the people you were going to help for a res. :3

Yeah I thought that, sit would be perfect and it's even in a practical place for it by default.

As for flying level: Aim for the top of the furthest visible mountain, then turn in the direction you wish to go. Worst case scenario you'll loose a bit of speed at the flight ceiling, or land on that mountain.
Finding the spot right under you: Have you tried targeting yourself? I haven't checked but in case a circle appears around you as they do around any other target.. don't think it does on the ground, but worth a try.
Alternative: Critter pet. Have a chicken or something follow you on the ground while keeping a (relatively) low altitude so that it wont disappear. Sure, your enemy will see a chicken running at him just before being rawrbombed, but beats landing 25½ yard away from that hunter/caster you were trying to bomb and take 98% fall damage...

An artificial horizon mod is currently being worked on.
Take a gander. (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=77785285&sid=1&pageNo=1)

You have to admit that'd be hysterical, to have people fleeing in panic from non-combat pet chickens...

Cool, thanks. Nothing useful there yet, but people are definately thinking about it.
