i just purchased a headset and was wondering where and what to do to get them working with wow

plug it in to your sound card?

once your headset is plugged in to the appropriate slots (refer to instruction manual) you just put it on and you can hear the sound through the earpieces

Voice chat isn't a part of WoW. Not an inbuilt feature or a mod, but a stand alone program of your choice. Most use Skype/Ventrilo/Team Speak.
