hey there, as i'm upping my mining skill to 300ish i'm starting to quickly realize that all of my old mining spots in azeroth will be of little use when i hit outland (a place where i know next to nothing about the nodes).
could someone help me out by pointing me in the direction of a mod (or addon to cartographer) that adds mining nodes to either the minimap or to the zone map? i'd really appreciate it.

Go to http://files.wowace.com/. Grab Cartographer Mining from there.

Personally, I recommend going to www.gathereraddon.com
Download the gatherer mod. Not only will it track herbs and minerals, but if anybody in your guild has Gatherer, it will tell you when they mark herbs and minerals as well.

If you're already using Cartographer, I'd stick with Cartographer Mining. Lower impact on the system (meaning higher FPS in some cases, but not dramatic changes), and it can do everything Gatherer does (as far as mining goes, you'd have to add Herbalism and Treasure to get all the tracking functionality). I know, I just switched a week ago). It won't share data with Gatherer users, but it can be configured to share with other Cartographer users.
In fact, since it's implemented as Cartographer map notes, it picks up on all of that functionality as well. when you're chasing after one specific type of node that isn't a common spawn, it's nice to pop over to the map and set a node as a waypoint. Then you get an arrow pointing to the node location, a distance, and an ETA.
If you're not using Cartographer, and you're not interested in it for whatever reason, by all means go with Gatherer. The actual functionality is of a similar level, the biggest difference is that Cartographer Mining/Herbalism/Treasure is designed to work with Cartographer, so it's better integrated. Gatherer, on the other hand, works if you aren't using Cartographer.

And let's face it. The waypoints are dead sexy.
