Well, I got the notification today. I'm going to Germany for 4 months. I need some advice on what graphics chip/card to get with a new laptop. My current laptop (HP ZD7000) has a Nvidia GeForce FX Go5600 with 128MB of dedicated memory and a 3.0Ghz P4. I haven't tried WoW on it since I use my desktop 99% of the time. Should I try installing the game and playing it on my laptop to see if it will run it fine? Or should I 'vendor' it on ebay and get a new one?

Any suggestions on graphics cards for the new laptop (if I need a new laptop) would be greatly appreciated. The two I am looking at have the mobility radeon x1600 and the nvidia geforce go 7300. Which one of these is better?

Thanks...

The Geforce Go series has a better performance, often at a higher price. If they're equal, go for the Go 7300, it is superior. The X1600 mobility is inferior.

I recommend you give the current laptop a try with WoW. You have nothing to lose, and you may just discover the performance to be adequite without having to spend money.

Well, I tried it on my current laptop and I could get close to 30 fps but with many of the settings either reduced or not used at all. So the old ZD7000 is going on ebay (after 2 years of very reliable service) and I just ordered a new HP laptop with the Nvidia go 7600 with 256MB dedicated memory.

So, to sum up, if you are looking for a cheap used laptop, don't purchase the HP ZD7000 if you want to play WoW with decent framerates while also maxing out the settings...
