Just wondering if anyone had info on the proc rate to learn recipes 'magically' through creating a number of items.
Granted, I imagine it will not happen often, but I have spent the last week or so making elixir after elixir and having proc after proc (prolly about 50 exra elixirs from procs at least) and each time I hope to learn a new recipe but it does not happen, is there any info as to how this happens?

A guy in my guild is sitting at just over 2000 elixirs made without learning anything. There has been 1 total report of a new recipe being learned on my server.
Don't expect it anytime soon....

A guy i group with has learned 3 or 4, i've actually seen it happen twice. I'll ask him what they are tonight.
He makes quite a few elixir but i'm not sure how many.

The "proc rate" for Discoveries is reportedly in line with (in some reports, a lot worse chance than) a random world Epic level drop. So, roughly 0.1%, probably lower. Unfarmable by any reasonable player. Possibly farmable by a Chinese gold monkey on crack and speed and a crapload of caffeine.
The proc rate is supposedly unaffected by masteries, character level, or alchemy level, although the only reports in thus far are procs from Outland level recipes. That appears to be the only requirement.
Get lucky or get lost, appears to be the rule.

That seems very excessive...to my knowledge noone has received any 'Discoveries' in my guild. Were you able to determine what was 'learned'. Are you sure he is not full of hot air? Or perhaps he is confusing this with master spec procs where after several potions/elixir/whaterver are created, they can proc creating up to 5 extra of the same thing free /without mats.
Now I know within a weekd of BC there were enough ppl who had 'discoveries' to confirm this has happened but that is about all i know.

One person in my guild discovered the attack power flask... that's the only one I've heard about on our server though.

I actually saw him proc one, no i forget what they are called and have forgotten to ask him what they were. I really have no reason to lie about this, i'll post back once i ask him over the weekend.
We have an entire rare flask sticky thread on my realm forum..
Multiple people on my server are making:
Flask of Arcane Fortification (+75 AR, and 40hp5)
Flask of Mighty Restoration (70 mp5)
Flask of Relentless Assault (+360 AP)
Flask of Shadow Fortification (+75 SR, and 40hp5)
Flask of the Fortification (+1500 Health, and 30 Defense)

So is anyone else dissatisfied with this system? I doubt Blizzard will be changing it ever, but I just find it frustrating to have no control over which high-end recipes I can learn and make.

Have you ever tried farming for a flask recipe under the old system? It's just as frustrating. All in all I don't really care because they didn't make a new dps caster flask anyway.

It sucks, but it doesn't suck any worse than the previous system. I'd have no idea how to get flasks before other than run dungeon, after dungeon, after dungeon, after... you get the idea.
This way is a hair better, because the recipes won't by random luck go to a leatherworker who can convert it into a five thousand gold paycheck. It will go to alchemists who are working (or burn-farming) their trade, rather than farmers butchering bosses.
And with the excessive (if in-line) price of imbued vials... anyone farming it has certainly paid the price by now.
