I just made a new warlock. At first I thought about doing enchanting / tailoring, but read enchanting is a big money sink. I've decided to drop it for mining. How profitable is tailoring? Should i drop it and just stick to mining/skinning? Also, since I have a warlock, would it be worth sticking to tailoring for the shadowweave set, or is it easier to just instance/buy better gear?

Mining/herbing is probably the best for cash by rule of thumb.
Enchanting tailoring can eclipse it at high levels, with much less time invested.
If you want to make the shadow set you have to be a tailor, and shadow spec.
I would recommend gathering professions until you have a healthy bankroll and are fairly high level 65+ so that if you decide to pickup tailoring/enchanting you can farm mats easily and PL the new professions.

I would just go with gathering profs early to build up money then switch to tailoring/enchanting. Yes it can be a big money sink but it's oh so valuable to be able to disenchant all your tailoring products.

Actually enchanting is only a money sink if you enchant. Its not hard to get it up to 300ish just to disenchant. Disenchanting is good money

Yeah, Enchanting changed with TBC. Prior to that you didn't get skill points for disenchanting once you reached a certain lvl - 20 or so. After that the only way to skill up was to enchant things.
Now they have put disenchanting into bands, so that you need more skill points to dis a lvl 20 item than you do for a lvl 5 item, and you can skill up with dissing much more easily.
I think.

You stop getting skill points at 50 for disenchanting. Same as it's always been.

sure it's 50? I seem to remember getting up to 60 or so before I could no longer get points for DEing

I de for tips, via mail or in person.
Makes me a pretty steady income.
Most people will tip you part of the mats, good $ with that.
I charge 50s per item.

I will stick to skinning/mining then. Since the good tailoring skills don't come until BC anyways, I'll can switch then since I'll have the money to power level it.

I agree with your choice Destec. While mine/herb will net you more money, it is more of a pain.. you only can have 1 tracking skill up at any one time, so it's either mine or herb. Skinning requires no tracking skill... just killing beasts.
I highly suggest getting the gatherer addon. It keeps track of where you mined (and your guildies now). You can go back to see if the node has respawned later.

i agree with people in this thread.
My first character was a priest..he went Tailor/Chanting...currently lvl 65 with 345 Tailoring and 240 Enchanting. He wsa always broke.
I also was leveling him with my Hunter whom is 61. But a 300 skinner...and he brought in all the money.
I rerolled on a new server....and my 34 Warlock is just Tailoring(193 atm) because I never see the Shadoweave gear in the AH(37-44 gear:thumbsup: )
